“You really went to all this trouble just to see me?”

Wendy hesitated, her voice barely above a whisper. “No…”

“Then why are you still here? Should I have someone show you out?”

“Patricia, I need to talk to you. It’s important.”

Patricia’s expression was unreadable. “What could you and I possibly have to talk about?”

She called out, “Aiden.” Instantly, Aiden appeared from the lounge, his eyes flicking from Wendy to Patricia.

Patricia looked back at her reflection in the mirror, her tone cool. “Show her out, please.”

For a split second, panic flashed across Wendy’s face. She couldn’t leave, not now, not after how hard it had been to find Patricia. She hadn’t even gotten to the real reason she was here. If she left now, who knew when she’d get another chance?

“Patricia, I have news about Ruby. You need to hear it.”

Patricia met her eyes in the mirror, a faint, almost amused smile on her lips. “I don’t want to hear it.”

She was sure Ruby was finished. She had already buried her. What else could Ruby possibly stir up?

“Don’t you want to know what Ruby’s done behind your back? All the things she hid from you?”

“Nope.”

“Aiden.”

Aiden stepped forward, putting himself between Wendy and Patricia. “Let’s go, Wendy.”

But Wendy wasn’t ready to give up. She tried to edge past him, desperate to get a word in, but Aiden caught her arm and started guiding her away from the screen.

She struggled, trying to shake him off, but Aiden didn’t let go. He pulled her forward, and in her panic, Wendy reached out, grabbing at the air for anything to steady herself.
