Mr. Padilla couldn’t help but laugh, though he seemed a bit exasperated. He reached over, caught her arm, and pulled her close. “What’s this? Are you mad at me now?”
“No, I’m just hot. Don’t touch me.” Patricia pushed him away without hesitation. She was already burning up, and being so close to him just made it worse. It was honestly driving her crazy.
“Okay, okay. Time to get dressed, we’re almost there.”
She still felt grumpy, but she knew it was cold outside, so she didn’t argue about putting her coat on.
The moment they boarded the jet, Patricia wasted no time stripping off her layers. She even swapped her turtleneck for a cute off-the-shoulder floral top. The creamy color and her white pants made her look fresh and sweet.
She collapsed onto the sofa, feeling lazy, and watched Oliver hang up her clothes for her.
He came back over and asked, “There’s a bed here. Want to try and nap?”
“I want to, but I just can’t fall asleep.”
He knelt down in front of her, looking her right in the eye with a hint of worry. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?”
“I just feel restless. I want some ice water.”
Mr. Padilla didn’t answer right away.
Seeing that, Patricia pressed him. “Can I have some?”
He finally gave in. “Just half a glass. That’s all.”
Patricia nodded, looking all sweet and innocent.
But being in the early stages of pregnancy was rough, and half a glass of water didn’t do much to cool her down. After finishing it, she wanted more. Mr. Padilla, though, was stubborn. He tried to distract her, promising she could have more after they landed.
Patricia saw right through him. She knew that “after we land” was just an excuse. What he really wanted was for her to forget about it.
She didn’t even feel like talking anymore, she was just that uncomfortable.
