You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 836

That night, the villa was lit up like a festival. Marian and Jackson were invited too, so it felt like a real family gathering.

Everyone crowded around the living room, and the conversation kept drifting back to the baby growing inside Patricia. First, someone asked about the gender, if they’d checked. Oliver just smiled, relaxed as ever. “Either way is perfect,” he said.

Then came the questions about where Patricia planned to give birth, and how she’d spend her recovery. Oliver answered right away. “We’ll stay here in Riverdale. Her family’s close by, so Pattie will feel more comfortable. You know, new moms are at risk for postpartum depression. She needs somewhere cozy, somewhere she feels good.”

Every word he spoke sounded heartfelt. Grandma couldn’t take her eyes off him, looking more and more pleased by the second.

Once the elders started liking their son-in-law, the conversation naturally got livelier. And when people talked more, they drank more. Unsurprisingly, Oliver ended up a little too tipsy.

By eleven thirty, a few of the women, including Patricia, helped Oliver into the bedroom. Maggie offered to stay and help out, but Patricia shook her head. Atticus was just as drunk, so she didn’t want Maggie to worry about both of them.

Patricia wet a towel and wiped Oliver down, starting from his hands and moving up to his face. She kept coaxing him, helping him out of his clothes.

“Why don’t you take a shower before bed?” she said softly.

Oliver was sprawled out on the bed, one arm flung over his eyes. His voice was weak and a little pitiful. “My head hurts. I really don’t want to move.”

“You have to stop drinking so much,” she said.

He rolled over and wrapped his arms around her waist, grumbling. “Uncle Atticus always brings his homemade wine and insists I drink with him.”

Patricia couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re the one who keeps telling him how good it is.”

Oliver muttered, “I was just being polite.” He always complimented the wine, but honestly, every time he drank it, he wondered if Atticus was sneaking in something extra. His head would pound for days after. That stuff hit hard, but he’d never actually say it out loud. He was way too afraid of being banned from the Parsons’ house forever.
