You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 838

Patricia just stared, speechless. Chelsea looked the same, caught somewhere between embarrassment and annoyance.

“Before I picked you up, I had to drag her away from Hector’s front door. She went all the way there just to get shut out. Talk about humiliating. I’ve told you a million times, Hector might have his act together at work, but that doesn’t mean he’s a good guy. He’s a total commitment-phobe. Even if he dates you, it’s just for the thrill. But you still chased after him like it was some epic love story.”

Chelsea rolled her eyes. “How do you know I was taking it seriously? Maybe I was just in it for fun too.”

Jackson shot her an exasperated look. “Oh, please. You honestly think you’re just playing around? Come on, Chelsea, you know yourself better than that. Why are you pretending to be some heartless player? Did you leave your common sense in the lab with the formaldehyde?”

Jackson was practically fuming. Everyone knew Hector’s reputation. As the CEO of Pacific Capital, his life was just one nonstop party. He had no shortage of excitement. Chelsea, on the other hand, had been holed up in the lab for so long that her world felt small and colorless. She was itching for something—anything—that would shake things up.

So, of course, Hector was exactly the kind of trouble she went looking for.

First, it was a basketball game to watch some cute guys play. Then nights out at clubs with male models. Then a boat trip, fishing with even more handsome guys. Just stuff friends do, right? But Chelsea got hooked. She meant to tell Patricia before the holidays, but she got busy with work and pushed it aside. And then, before she knew it, she was in way over her head.

“Why do you care if I’m actually heartless or just messing around? Are you the feelings police now or something? Mind your own business.”

Jackson let out a sharp laugh. “Oh, you’re so tough. So independent. I’m really impressed. Next time, don’t call me in the middle of the night to come rescue you then, okay?”
