“You’re not from Riverdale, are you? Otherwise, there’s no way you wouldn’t know her.”
Chelsea just stared at the phone for a while, silent. The woman took the phone back, zoomed in on the photo to double-check, saw that it was definitely Patricia, and handed it back.
“Take another look. You really haven’t seen her?”
Chelsea caught on to what was happening. She faked a gasp, covered her mouth, and pointed at the screen. “Oh! Now I remember…”
“Knew it,” the woman in front said with a smug little hum.
Honestly, who didn’t know Patricia’s face? It was impossible.
“She was that angelic girl at the gala last week.”
The woman’s face instantly went cold when she heard Chelsea say that. She stared at her for a moment, then finally spoke, voice edged with disdain. “What are you, blind?”
“But she really is gorgeous. And her husband? Total heartthrob.”
“So what if he’s handsome? Isn’t he about to cheat on her?”
“Still better than being ugly and cheating, right?”
“You…” The girl was so annoyed she could barely get a word out. She kept looking at Chelsea, feeling like she seemed familiar. Had they met somewhere before?
“Linda,” someone called from the restroom doorway. The woman who came out stopped, eyeing Chelsea up and down with obvious suspicion.
Clearly, she knew exactly who Chelsea was.
Chelsea didn’t bother sticking around. She clicked off in her heels, heading back to the private room.
As soon as she left, the girl who’d just come out turned to her friend. “What were you talking to her about? That’s Patricia’s cousin.”
“No wonder she was trying to get under my skin.”
Back in the private room, everyone was in a good mood, trading stories about the holidays and waiting for their friends to come back.
