“I swear, you’re out of your mind, just swinging at anyone you want.”
Patricia shook out her numb hand and moved in front of Jackson, shielding him. She shot Grace a cold glare. Did she seriously think Patricia was an easy target? Even if she was, she’d never let anyone push Jackson around.
Did Grace really think he was just a servant to be bullied?
“You actually hit me?”
“Why wouldn’t I? You started throwing punches and running your mouth. If you try anything else, I promise you won’t walk out of here today.”
Grace dropped the hand from her face, her eyes locked on Patricia as she nodded, sharp and furious. “Wow, Oliver really picked a wife. I want to see if you’ve actually got the guts to keep me from leaving.”
Grace lunged, hand ready to slap, but before Patricia could even raise her own, Jackson stepped in. He tucked Patricia safely behind him and, with one quick move, kicked Grace straight into the fish pond just outside the Padilla family courtyard.
There was a loud splash as Grace’s back smacked against the rock garden before she tumbled into the water.
Inside, Oliver had been restless from the moment he saw Patricia’s car pull up.
Grace was like a rabid dog.
Patricia wasn’t one to be bullied, but she was pregnant.
If anything went wrong, Oliver would never forgive himself.
He jumped up, reaching for the door, but Miles’s voice stopped him in his tracks. “Oliver, sit down and have some tea.”
“Patricia’s outside,” Oliver shot back, barely holding in his worry.
“Your wife can handle herself. Sit.”
Miles’s calm, commanding presence filled the room, his words heavy enough to make everyone else quiet.
That kind of pressure was impossible to ignore.
