You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 872

Hector turned to glance back at Chelsea. Almost like she could feel it, she lifted her head and locked eyes with him. That one look between them was a mess of emotions.

Chelsea looked away almost instantly.

For a split second, guilt flashed through her, but she shook it off. So what if she was going out on dates? It wasn’t like she had sworn off marriage. Why should she feel guilty?

Her guilt barely lasted a heartbeat before she shot Hector a sharp glare, refusing to back down.

Hector stood quietly for a moment, then walked into the tea room.

Inside, the three of them chatted about Riverdale’s economy and what was happening in politics lately. The conversation jumped from headline to headline like a running recap of the news.

Halfway through, the Parsons family’s housekeeper called to say someone had dropped by their place. The group wrapped things up and hurried out.

Once Atticus and the others had gone, Oliver came back into the tea room, picked up his cup, and took a slow sip. He eyed Hector over the rim. “I’m back. So why do you still look like someone ruined your day?”

“Just because you’re back doesn’t mean I didn’t have to work over the holidays.”

“You can take your time off whenever you want, okay?” Oliver sounded more flexible than ever. Before, he’d never have let Hector off that easy.

Hector let out a scoff, set his cup down with a heavy thump, and muttered, “Like I even care.”

He grabbed his jacket, tossed it over his arm, and strode out.

Patricia was just about to step inside and nearly collided with Hector storming out. She paused, confused.

“What’s up with Mr. McKee?” she asked.

Oliver pressed his lips together. “Must’ve eaten something that didn’t agree with him. He’s in a mood tonight.”

Patricia wasn’t so sure. It definitely seemed like more than just bad food.

Later that night, Patricia finished her shower and stood in front of her vanity, rubbing moisturizer into her skin. Oliver came in carrying a glass of water and her supplements, then stood behind her, waiting patiently.

She caught his eye in the mirror and started chatting. “Can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” Oliver said.
