You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 874

“Private clinics don’t have long waits, but you have to fast before the checkup. If you go hungry for too long, your blood sugar will drop. Come on, let’s just get it over with and come right back.”

Patricia woke up grumpy. She looked completely fed up. Instead of helping, Oliver’s gentle coaxing just made her mood worse.

“So why did you keep me up last night?” she snapped.

He knew they had to get up early, but he still kept her awake until midnight. The more she thought about it, the more irritated she became. She dug in her heels, sitting stubbornly on the bed and refusing to budge. No matter what Oliver said, she wouldn’t give in.

The standoff only ended when Marian came upstairs and said, “It doesn’t matter if you go today or tomorrow. Why not just wait until tomorrow?” That finally settled things.

Patricia went back to sleep and didn’t wake up until ten thirty. After a good rest, her mood felt lighter. When she came downstairs, her footsteps were almost bouncy.

Pregnancy had made Patricia’s temper unpredictable. At first, it wasn’t so bad. But after five months, as her belly grew, so did her frustration. If she ate too much, she felt uncomfortable. If she ate too little, the baby would start kicking up a storm inside her.

Whatever discomfort she felt, the baby seemed to double it.

The physical exhaustion made her snappier. Sometimes when Oliver asked too much of her, she would just ignore him completely. She wouldn’t answer his calls or reply to his messages, acting like he didn’t even exist. If he nagged her to go to bed early, she would lock the bedroom door. Once it was locked, no one was getting in. And if he tried knocking, it just made her more determined to stay inside. Everything had to go her way.

Sara often joked about how the tables had turned. “What goes around comes around,” she would say.

Once, while drinking with Hector, Sara shook her head and took a sip from her glass. “My Uncle Oliver used to be so bossy. Now look at him. He’s so quiet, he barely dares to breathe. Aunt Patricia sends him packing every few days. Last night, he didn’t even get to sleep in the master bedroom.”

“And even then, he wouldn’t sleep in a guest room,” she continued. “His wife’s pregnant and sleeping alone, so he’s terrified something might happen. He spent the whole night on the sofa.”
