You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 892

When the elevator reached their floor and the doors slid open, Bella slipped her arm through Gilbert’s again, looking every bit the picture-perfect couple.

Inside the private dining room, the Oriol family sat together, waiting. As soon as Bella and Gilbert walked in, everyone started gushing about how great they looked together, showering them with compliments that felt so fake it was hard not to roll your eyes. Still, Bella kept her smile, sitting close to Gilbert and acting out the part of the devoted wife, even leaning in now and then just for show.

Once they left the room and saw everyone off, the act disappeared. In a marriage like theirs, there was everything except real feelings.

That same day, Oliver took Patricia to a private restaurant reserved for Pacific Capital’s inner circle. As they headed inside, Oliver’s phone started ringing. He glanced at the caller ID, then told the waiter to show Patricia to their room first. He stepped out into the quiet corridor of a Chinese-style courtyard and picked up.

Whatever he heard on the other end made him frown. After a few minutes of listening, he couldn’t hold back anymore. “Don’t you think that idea is completely ridiculous?”

Whoever was on the other side must have said something totally unreasonable, because Oliver let out a dry laugh, shaking his head. He pushed his suit jacket back, put his hand on his hip, and finally said, “Alright, then. Let’s see if your logic is as twisted as it sounds, or if you’re actually onto something.”

When that call ended, he dialed Lincoln and gave him a few instructions before making his way to the private room.

He arrived just as the waiter set down the last dish, asking if they needed anyone to stay and serve. Patricia didn’t even get a chance to answer before Oliver called out from the doorway, “You can leave, thanks.”

Patricia looked at him. “Everything okay? Was that work? You were gone a while.”

Oliver gave a light nod. “Yeah. Why didn’t you start eating?”

“I wasn’t that hungry. I figured I’d wait for you.”
