You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 916

Wait, what?

So he gets to decide when to get married, and when not to? Who does he think he is, and what exactly does he think I am? Does he see himself as some kind of king? The whole thing is just ridiculous.

Chelsea’s face puckered up as she stared at Atticus. She took a deep breath, trying to work up the nerve. “Dad, I think you’re misunderstanding something. Hector and I are just… hooking up. There’s nothing serious going on. No feelings, no talk of marriage—nothing like that.”

“Really?” Atticus looked completely unconvinced. He knew men too well.

If Hector truly didn’t care about Chelsea, he would have fought back when Atticus hit him earlier that day.

But he didn’t. He just stood there and took it.

That alone told Atticus it wasn’t as simple as Chelsea made it sound. Either Hector was catching real feelings and just hadn’t realized it, or something between them had changed.

“Let me ask you. Do you think a guy like Hector would just let someone come over and beat him up without fighting back?”

“Of course not!” Chelsea blurted out. That jerk was so arrogant.

He was like a peacock, strutting around with his millions before even turning thirty-five. In any city, he’d be considered one of the elite few. Their friends always joked that a guy like Hector was made to play games with people’s feelings, never the other way around.

“But today, I nearly beat him to a pulp and he didn’t even lift a finger. Why do you think that is?”

Chelsea’s mind went blank. Seriously, couldn’t that jerk have just stayed arrogant to the end? If he had, she wouldn’t be spiraling like this right now.

She answered carefully, “Maybe… because you’re the top dog in Riverdale?”
