You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 930

After a quick bathroom break, she crawled back into bed and caught a little more sleep. When she got up again, Jackson had already brought Grandma over. He was hanging out in the kitchen, totally fixated on Marian as she made breakfast, practically drooling over the beef noodle soup bubbling in the pot.

Marian caught him staring and laughed, shaking her head. “You’re lucky, you know. This was supposed to be Sara’s breakfast. She picked it out last night. Now that she’s not here, you get to eat it instead.”

Jackson grinned. “Well, if she’s not going to eat it, it’d just go to waste. I’m doing everyone a favor, really.”

Marian rolled her eyes, but she smiled. “Maybe, but you’re not getting all of it. I’m sure Chelsea wants some too.”

Jackson pretended to be offended. “See, I always knew I wasn’t your favorite.”

Marian shot back, “Well, you’re a boy, aren’t you? If you were a girl, I’d spoil you rotten. When I was younger, I used to get so jealous of families with daughters. I always wanted one myself. But instead…”

Jackson picked up the story, “You ended up with two sons.”

Marian sighed and stirred the noodles with a spoon. “That’s how it turned out.”

She gave a little shrug. “Guess I just wasn’t meant to have a daughter. No point wishing for it now. I’ll just hope for a granddaughter someday. Although, maybe I should move our family’s ancestral grave for better luck. That might guarantee a girl…”

Marian glared at him. “Move the ancestral grave? Why don’t you just suggest I blow it up while you’re at it?”

Jackson grinned. “Well, if you really want to…”

“Go, go, go,” Marian said, shooing him away with a wave. “Go see if the others are awake yet.”

Jackson left the kitchen, whistling his way over to the main house. As he reached the door, he spotted Chelsea helping Patricia down the stairs.
