You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 935

Her cries were so intense that nurses and doctors rushed in to help. Out in the hallway, the noise woke the baby, who started wailing too. Two maternity nurses tried to calm the little one while Chelsea and Oliver focused on Patricia, gently lifting her from the edge of the bed and guiding her through those first, shaky steps.

A week later, Patricia and the baby finally came home to Cloud Peak. They were joined by a pediatric nurse from the hospital. Two maternity nurses and the pediatric nurse looked after the baby, while another maternity nurse and Oliver devoted their attention to Patricia. Oliver was on high alert, always watching Patricia's mood, terrified of missing any sign of postpartum depression. The pressure was so much that he hardly had time or energy for the baby.

It wasn’t until the eighth day, when Patricia could walk around on her own again, that she really started to feel that rush of motherly love. She was finally ready to see her baby. The maternity nurse brought the little one over. Patricia gazed at the tiny bundle curled up by her side and felt her heart melt.

"Does she have a nickname yet?" Patricia asked.

"She does," the nurse replied with a smile. "He named her Hope."

"Mr. Padilla said having hope is the most important thing in life. With everything that’s happened, he feels like this is more than enough. He’s truly content."

Patricia smiled and stroked her daughter’s tiny hand, her voice soft and full of warmth. "Daddy spent so long thinking about it. I thought he’d come up with something fancy… but he chose something so simple in the end."

"Simple is best," Maggie chimed in, sitting beside her. "A simple, peaceful life is what really matters."

Not long after, Oliver came upstairs. The past week had clearly worn him down. He looked thinner, almost gaunt. He was the one up at night when Patricia couldn’t sleep from the pain. In the hospital, if the baby cried, he was always the first awake. Now that they were home, he still found time to squeeze in work meetings with his team from Pacific Capital while his wife and daughter slept.

When Oliver came in, Maggie quietly motioned for the nurses to leave, giving them a moment alone as a family. Oliver sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Patricia and their baby with a tenderness she’d never seen before. He noticed her blanket had slipped and gently pulled it up over her shoulders.

Patricia glanced at the baby, fast asleep, and tried to sit up. Oliver immediately moved to adjust her pillow.

"Do you have to go back to Golden Bay?" she asked.
