Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 14

Ellie’s POV

I live alone, and t don’t have much of a personal life; who am I kidding, I don’t have one at all. But when you have a wolf living in your consciousness, are you ever truly alone? But for the past three days, I’ve had to care for someone else, and it’s been hard work. I have a new appreciation for people who do it regularly.

Kiki and I talked about Sam at night when I was curled up on a blow-up in the reception area of my clinic. We are curious about her. What happened to her? Which pack was she from, as there weren’t any within a 50-mile radius.

Kiki imagined her family and pack were worried sick about her, as wolf packs are close-knit social animals. We came up with all sorts of scenarios. I don’t know which one was worse, as they were all as bad as each other.

The woods should now be empty, and Kiki was frustrated, but it would mean leaving Sam alone. So she endured.

Which is better than I can say l am. I’m going stir-crazy. I have never spent this much continuous time in the clinic and I have decided that after Sam is gone, l am decorating the place, especially the waiting area.

I have been keeping Sam asleep and dressing her wounds while the antibiotics take effect. William followed through and visited three times a day to administer them as well as deliver a concoction of other medicines for her comfort. He tells me that the kids and their parents arekeen to thank Sam. “To thank her for what she did, but they were keen to return home soon.” He told me.

“It is what it is,” I told him. “Her body will recover as she sleeps, regardless of the time it takes.” William looked at me suspiciously.

“You aren’t giving her anything to help her sleep, are you, Ellie?” William asked me skeptically.

“What are you accusing me of? I’m not giving her anything other than what you sent me. I promise.” I said, holding my hands up defensively. He has to trust me. After all, it’s not I who compromised my morals.

1 had been changing her dressings daily and, thankfully, on the fourth day. I felt there was a serious improvement as the odor wasn’t as foul-smelling. Which should mean her pain will be manageable. Kiki and I agreed that the next time Sam woke up, we would try to keep her awake.

Unless she was struggling, of course.

As Sam stirred, I took a seat on the stool by the wall. I needed her to see me without feeling threatened. Sam’s eyes flickered but didn’t open; she sobbed lightly. “Hey,” | said gently, wanting to comfort her. But I didn’t move. I do this with some skittish animals to gain their trust.

“Wa.” she said. I guessed she was attempting to say water. So I picked up a glass and a straw, filling it fresh from the sink. As I placed the straw next to her lips, she clamped them shut. She’s thirsty but won’t drink, Kiki growled, suspecting she had been poisoned. Judging by Sam’s actions, I had to agree with Kiki. “I won’t harm you,” I said reassuringly. “If I wanted to do that, I woüldn’t have been caring for you all week.” I put the glass to my lips and took a sip. “See, not poisoned.”

She still didn’t take a sip. I drank what was in the glass and went and filled it again, this under her watchful eyes.

William knocked on the door and walked in. “You’re awake,” he beamed, clapping his hands, “Oh, this is marvelous. We can get you to my place. Arrange a press conference. Arrange a reunion and claim the reward.

Young lady, you’re going to be rich.” William reached out to touch Sam. Causing her to scream and cry she tried to stand to get away from William. But her legs were so weak, she collapsed to the ground and tried to crawl away from him. I rushed to her and wrapped my arms around her. “It’s okay, Sam. Don’t be scared. You don’t have to do anything, not until you’re ready.”

She buried her face in the crook of my neck and cried. If F didn’t know this was an act, I would have been convinced she was terrified.| looked at William, who was pale. “Ellie, is the young heroine okay to stay with you for a little while? It may be best she steers clear of,” he coughed into his hand, “er people.”

I nodded my head at him. Sam’s awake. She may not need the frequent visits from William. He will want to be involved in her care, though. After he left, Sam didn’t let go of me. This caused Kiki and me to be concerned that something traumatic had happened to Sam. “All you can do is help her heal and when she is ready. If she is ready, she will open up to you,” Kiki told me.

“Sam,” I pushed her away from me. ” know it’s a lot to deal with, and I am going to help you. But we need to work together to get you on the road to recovery.”

“I don’t think I’ll ever recover.” She said so sadly that my heart broke for her. What had this poor girl been through?
