Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 16

Sam’s POV

Ellie canceled her non-urgent clinic appointments over the next few days to look after me. She ordered food to be delivered to the clinic, and she showered in the kennel area. Her place of work was relatively small, consisting of a reception area, a clinic room, an operating area, a kennel, a storeroom, a kitchen, and a restroom.

Ellie reopened her clinic once I could move around without being in pain. I was still experiencing some discomfort, but it was bearable. I helped with minor tasks, such as cleaning. It wasn’t much, but it was all I could manage, and it kept me busy. Ellie never once complained about me hiding in the back, away from the humans who brought their pets in for check-ups and minor injuries. I had never interacted with humans before and was anxious.

Listening to Ellie talk so confidently made me jealous. She was smart, really smart. She knew so much, and she gave the animals the best possible care imaginable. Yes, she was blunt, and she was not afraid to tell anyone what she thought of them. But then I remembered the plaque that hung in her clinic. My personality is who l am. My attitude is who you are.’ She warned them as soon as they walked into her building.

William, the human doctor, was the only other person I interacted with. Even then, it was once a day for a short period. After a couple of days, he was hoping I would take part in a press conference to talk about my ordeal. Ellie threw him out nearly every day, as she could see I was getting upset.

Despite this, he still asked, stating that the police would want to speak to me, eventually.

Ellie did my dressings on her lunch break. “How are you feeling?” Ellie asked me as I lay face down on the cold examination table. Ellie never pushed me to talk about what happened. But William’s words bounced around my mind. You are going to have to talk to the police, eventually.’

“I don’t know what I would say to the police. What could I say without exposing what I am?” I talked to Zola. While Ellie quietly worked.

“Tell her. She may be able to help you fabricate a story,” Zola said encouragingly.

“It’s just hard,” I confessed. “It’s hard to talk about it because it would be like reliving the entire thing again.

Ignorance is bliss at this stage.”

“Ignorance won’t help you if you want to stay with Ellie in South View. Eventually, people will start asking questions,” she told me, reminding me I had nowhere to call home. I can’t stay cooped up in Ellie’s clinic forever, and I certainly can’t expect Ellie to continue caring for me.

I am not her responsibility.”Sam, would you like to go out this evening? Just for a piece of pie?” Ellie asked me.

“Can you read minds?” I asked Ellie. I think I will die if she says yes.

“No. But I need to get out of this place, and I would prefer not to leave you here alone. Getting all worked up while I’m gone.”

I thought about it for a few moments. If I go outside, someone may take a picture of me and put it in the papers. Axel may find me, he may come for me, and take me back to the Shadow Pack. I never plan to go back there. Not for as long as I live. Then again, he wouldn’t let me live; he would kill me on the way back. “Ellie,” I said, sitting up. “I have something to tell you.” Gathering my courage. I proceeded to tell Ellie what I saw, then what and who hurt me. She walked away several times, which made me nervous. She kept apologizing, saying she needed to calm down. I never even made it to the part where Xavier pissed on me or when my wolf went mindless, when Zola howled in extreme pain. The pain made me grab my head and cry out. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” Ellie cried as she embraced me. “I didn’t mean to hurt you.

It’s just when I get mad. Something happens to the animals around me.” She apologized repeatedly.

As Zola and I recovered, I put some distance between Ellie and me. She had been so nice to me, I couldn’t believe Ellie was capable of causing me so much pain without touching me. I looked at Ellie, who held up her wrists. “Mygift is also my curse.” I was extremely confused. Ellie has done nothing but care for me, and now she is telling me She is cursed. “I need to know more,” I told her: Ellie shook her head. “Oh, come on. I’ve told you mine. Now you tell me yours.” I told her. Zola was still recovering, but she was curious as I was.

Everyone is staring at me,” I whispered. But she ignored my concern.

As Ellie sat at a booth, she requested two chocolate milkshakes. Then she looked at me. “No one is staring atyou. They’re staring at me. haven’t been seen in public with anyone since my mom died. This will be gossip to them. Smelly Ellie is socializing.” Her comment shocked me. Ellie doesn’t smell. She then explained what had happened at the town meeting.

“In front of the mayor, the townsfolk, and the kids’ parents. I told them you were in hiding from an abusive ex

-partner when the kidnappers found you. I reminded , everyone of how you saved Jessica and Zeb. Then I told them you were afraid to come out of hiding for fear of a permanent association with your kidnapping. How rumors would spread about what happened to you and how it would make you feel. I also told them that if a picture of you was taken, your ex might see it and come looking for you. That you had been through enough, and you were scared to be seen. This enraged Jessica and Zeb’s parents.

Who, in front of everyone, offered the mayor a generous donation to keep your identity hidden.” Ellie smiled. “It was a huge donation, and the mayor accepted it immediately on behalf of the town.” She touched my hands. “Their lawyers are drawing up NDAs as we speak. If anyone takes a picture of you or even speaks your name to an outsider, they are to be sued and the town loses everything. The whole town was there tonight, so they know.” She then slid a piece of paper over to me. “They wanted me to give this to you.” I unfolded the paper. The top line was blank, and it had an amount of money written on it. A large amount.

I pushed the cheque back to Ellie. “I would need an account to put all of that into. For an account, I need an ID.

That is something I don’t want. Put your name on it and keep it until I need it,” I told Ellie, who snickered at me.” You trust me far too much,” she said, smiling.

“Who cares?” I said, holding up my wrists. Our milkshakes arrived, and I sipped mine. Encouraging Ellie to tell me all about her curse.
