Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 26

Sam’s POV

As the words came out of my mouth, Zola questioned whether I had lost my mind. I know I sounded crazy. But as I stared at the black wolf lying on my floor. I could not help but see his future, or the lack of it. He would be a dead man if he returned to his pack handicapped. He would either be challenged, no self-respecting Alpha would remain in a pack after being defeated. So he would fight to the death or fight until he was unconscious, and then be banished. He would become a rogue, and then what? Zola said nothing about my thought process. She had her concerns, but she knew I was right. “Have you considered the possibility that he’s a bad Alpha? That he was chased from his pack.” Zola suggested.

“Have you considered the possibility that he’s a good

Alpha? That he was protecting his pack and was luring his enemies away.” I countered. She sighed, but I was adamant I wanted to do this. “I guess we will find out when he wakes up.”

“I will keep him safe until he can make a life for himself.

I’m going to help him, just like you help me.” I told Ellie, who was still convinced this was a bad idea. I didn’t tell Ellie that he might be able to offer Zola the wolf companionship she so desperately needs. Not in a romantic way. Oh no, that is not something I’m interested in. I doubt Zola would want to take a chosen mate so soon, not so soon after what happened. Then, with second-chance mate bonds being so rare. Not that the goddess would give me one. So, there is no chance of that ever happening to me.

Ellie took a lot of reassurance to get her to agree. But she reluctantly acknowledged that this was what I wanted. As she was leaving, she told me exactly what she would do to him if he hurt me. “That is nothing compared to what would do to him,” Zola threatened. Her threat made me snicker. What could she do against an Alpha wolf? But then again, with him missing a limb, Zola would be faster than him. We both would be.

It was getting busy outside when Ellie left. I hadn’t slept, but needed to stay awake. I went and made some warm milk before I cuddled up on my couch. I watched the wolf for any signs of movement. Other than his rib cage rising and falling, and his breathing, there was nothing.

The next thing I heard was the sound of bones cracking. ”

He’s shifting,” Zola informed me.

I bolted up to find a huge naked man lying face down on my floor. He had dark hair and bulging muscles all over his body. “He must train a lot,” I told Zola as my cheeks burned at his naked body. I am not embarrassed by nudity, as shifters, we strip out of our clothes all the time.

But I never see people naked other than that. That is something that should happen in the privacy of one’s home. “That will explain why he’s a large wolf.” Zola snickered. But I didn’t look at him that way. I saw a man in need. I grabbed a blanket and threw it over him. Now we just have to wait until he wakes up. Ellie always told me animals will wake up when they’re ready. So, I wait. I wait for his body to be ready.

It was nearly midday when my stomach growled. I hadn’t eaten in so long as I hoped. Zola and Kiki would have gone hunting last night. I contemplated running to the diner.

But if the shifter wakes up, he may freak out. He was in the woods before he blacked out.

I was making bacon and eggs when I heard movement.I rushed into my living room to see the man pushing himself up from the floor with both hands. His naked body was fully exposed when the blanket fell. “Hey,” I said, holding up my hand, so I didn’t have to look at privates. He looked at me, wobbled, before crashing to the floor. He scooted toward the door, raising his fists at me. Zola tried to force a shift to protect me, but I pushed her back. “Look at his expression. He’s scared. You shift, and he will think you’re attacking him.”

“He’s threatening you.” She snapped. She is only being protective, but he is far from attacking me:

“He’s protecting himself,” I told her.

“Hey. Hey. Hey. Don’t worry. I won’t harm you.” I told him, holding up my hands, showing him I had nothing in them.

“Tm.” His eyebrows furrowed. “T’m.” He looked at the door, then looked at me. “Sam. I don’t know who I am.” He slid down the wall and sobbed. I have never seen a grown Alpha cry. It made me uneasy. “Who am I?” I rushed over- to him.

“Hey, it’s okay,” I said reassuringly. “We’ll figure it out.” He stopped crying.

“How. I don’t know who I am, where I’m from, or anything.” I remembered what Ellie had told me about her amnesia.

Your memories will come back. I promise. Until then. I’ll look after you.” I told him as I helped him to the couch.

Suddenly, there was a banging on the door. “Sam. Are you okay in there? I’ve not seen you all day.” I didn’t answer.” I’m calling your sister if you don’t answer me,” Edgar yelled through the door. He can’t call Ellie. She will worry, then she will turn around and come back. I rushed to the door.

“Edgar. I’m okay,” I said, opening the door slightly and not wanting to divulge that I had a man inside. TIl be down soon.” Edgar nodded, and just as he was about to leave, he asked, “Are you burning something? Do you need some help?” I didn’t want to, but I needed to get rid of Edgar. So I opened the door a little more. “Edgar, I have company.”His eyes widened, and he smiled at me. “Say no more.

Sorry for bothering you. Go back to whatever you were doing.” He said before walking away. The look of horror on his face made me snicker.

Now, back to the shifter. “You need a name.”
