Sam’s POV
“Do you remember anything about where you’re from or who you are?” I asked him hopefully. He tried to speak several times, but no words came out of his mouth.
Eventually, he admitted defeat and shook his head.
“It’s like there is a block stopping me from remembering. I know they are there. I just can’t get to them.” He hit his head and pulled his hair in frustration.
“My sister told me she had amnesia when she was young.
The doctors told her that her memories would come back in time.” I told him, trying to put him at ease. That was what Ellie told me the doctors had told her.
“How long did she have to wait until her memories returned?” he asked hopefully.
“Her accident was over 20 years ago, and they still havent returned,” I told him truthfully. He shook his head again, then covered his face with his hands.
“So she still doesn’t know. What if that happens to me?” he said, looking terrified.
“Despite not knowing who she was or if she had a family.
She made a life for herself, a place to call home, and a job she loves. Not to mention adopting an amazing sister.” | say, touching my chest. “What I am saying is, she may not have her memories. But that didn’t stop her from becoming the fantastic woman she is today.” He sighed.
He looked hopeful. “What do I do while we wait?”
After a moment, I answered, “Name, clothes, and food.
They are the priority items. Everything else can wait until later,” I told him. I picked up the TV remote and pressed the power button. There was a cop show on, ‘Officer Nolan,’a voice yelled.
“What about Nolan?” I suggested.
“Nolan,” he suggested. “Nolan. I guess I can be Nolan until I remember my name.”
“it’s as good a name as any. I can also call you ‘No’ as a – nickname,” I said, snickering.
“I could be called anything. I wouldn’t know any difference.”
“Come on, don’t be like that,” I told Nolan as I got to my feet.
“Do you know how this happened?” he asked, pointing to the missing part of his leg. I didn’t know what to say. “Er.
When we found you, it was missing,” I told him. I knew exactly how it happened, but that would lead to a lot more questions.
“I wonder why his wolf hasn’t told him anything?” Zola questioned. It got me thinking about why Nolan hadn’t tried to use his Alpha command on me. Not that it would have worked, as I am not from his pack. But usually, anAlpha would try.
“Zola. Has he referred to his wolf at all?” I asked her.
“No,” she responded.
“Maybe he’s trapped behind that wall Nolan talked about,”
“See you later, Sam,” he yelled after me. As I walked away, I considered speaking to Edgar about any leftovers he had at the end of the day. Maybe he could give them away instead of throwing them away. But then again, Edgar believes that if you feed those in need, they will become dependent on you.
As walked into the gym, Tony rushed over to me, checking if I was okay. He knew Ellie was in town last night. But he got concerned when I didn’t show up that morning. “Ellie brought a friend with her, and he’d decided to stay in town for a while.”
“Someone from your past?” Tony inquired before rolling his neck and cracking his knuckles. It took me a few seconds to figure out what he was talking about. When I did, l snickered at his protectiveness. He thought Nolan was someone who had hurt me. “Thanks, Tony. But he’s a friend of Ellie’s and needed somewhere to crash. It was an impromptu visit. He needs a few things.” I went on to explain how Nolan was a larger man, and I was hoping to raid the lost and found box.
“Only if you’re here tonight. So I can check on you. I want to meet this friend as well. Check he won’t hurt you.” I could see the veins in his neck bulging. It was nice to have a father figure willing to protect me. It was also sad as it reminded me of Garth.
“Wouldn’t miss it,” I told him, knowing it would be the only way to get what I wanted. After filling a bag with clothes and the largest pair of spare shoes, they had. I was on my way home when I remembered they had a bin full of crutches at the thrift store. It would mean Nolan could get about independently. So, I took a detour. When I got back to my apartment, Nolan was asleep on the couch. He was moaning and touching himself. His erection told me he was enjoying whatever he was dreaming about. Then, out of nowhere, he began howling.” Nolan. Nolan,” I shouted. Not wanting to witness what was about to happen. “Nolan,” I shouted again, throwing the bag at him from the doorway.
“Argh,” he yelled. Causing me to snicker.
“Dreaming about someone important. I’m guessing a lady friend.” I asked, to his embarrassment.
“No one I know.” He paused. “Or remember.”
“Perhaps he has a mate out there waiting for him to come home?” Zola suggested. I felt bad for Nolan. In the last 24 hours, he’d forgotten everything he had ever known, including his wolf. Lost his leg, and now he’s dreaming about someone he doesn’t know.
But selfishly, Zola has not been pitying herself. This plan of mine may work. That is until he regains Nolan’s regains his memories and he returns home. In the meantime.
Enjoy the small wins. Because that’s all I have got these days.
