Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 28

Nolan’s POV

I may not know who l am. But I am confident l am not a dependent person. I guess it’s because I get so frustrated with myself when things don’t go right. Which is a lot lately.

Sam is an amazingly kind and patient young woman. She’s always there for me, supporting and providing for me.

While I wait to figure out who I am. She may get things wrong, but she is willing to try. Like when she shaved my face, she must have cut me a dozen times. She apologized and put a small piece of tissue on the wounds. Weirdly, though, when I looked in the mirror, my wounds had repaired themselves.

When I first met Sam, she got me a few items from her gym friend. But there was a condition attached: I was to meet them. Not being able to get around. That would have to wait, as the crutches Sam had acquired for me felt so unnatural, like had never used them before. It made me wonder how long I had been an amputee. It couldn’t have been long if I can’t use a pair of crutches.

I didn’t know what a thrift shop was, just that Sam would return home with random items all the time. Sadly, the clothes she would get me were often too small. But anything was better than nothing. Shoes were especially a problem, as my toes were too cramped. In the end, l resorted to wearing a slider. It was still too small, but | managed to make it work.

When I eventually met Sam’s gym friends. They tried to intimidate me, even though when I stood up straight, I looked down on them. But I had to appreciate how much they cared for her. The most overprotective one of them was a guy called Tony. He worked at ‘Pete’s Powerhouse’.

He grilled me, and I couldn’t answer most of his questions.

I told him what I knew. “Look, I had to leave home in a hurry.” I didn’t know whether it was true or not. All I know is that I was found in the woods. If I had planned to leave my home, I would have taken something with me.

Wouldn’t I?

Tony put his arm around my shoulders and turned me away from everyone. “Look, that girl has been hurt enough. She doesn’t need anyone else’s drama in her life.

Do you hear me?” I nodded, not fully understanding what he meant, but not understanding why he was telling me that. No one in their right mind would ever hurt Sam.

She’s so lovely.

After our little talk. Tony offered me a workup. In his opinion, if I were hanging around with Sam. I could protect her. Should she need it? I didn’t see how a man with one leg could help anyone. But he had faith in me.

Tony was surprised that my leg muscles were so strong for an amputee. “Usually, muscles waste away with time.

Did this happen recently?” He asked me before questioning whether I had a prosthetic. I didn’t know the answer to his question. “I don’t think it happened recently,as I am not in any pain. Surely if I had surgery, there would be pain.” I told him.

As the days turned into weeks, I tried to figure out who would harm Sam. She is the sort of person who cares about everyone, asking for nothing in return. She often talked to herself, which was a little unnerving. But then I figured out that she probably did it for the company, having been alone for a while. Although she does have a

– sister whom she mentions frequently. Sam is so private that I didn’t even know her sister’s name.

“Here you go, Frank,” Sam said, handing him a coffee and a bag of food. He immediately started eating whatever was in the bag. I wanted to ask Frank more about the black dog he spoke about. I have been dreaming about a black wolf for the past few weeks. There is also a woman I keep dreaming about, but I have no clue who she is.

“Wait here,” Sam told me, rushing off. I told Sam I would go with her to her karate assessment. She was so excited as we entered the dojo. I watched with real interest as the tournament began. It felt so familiar to watch people fighting. But I couldn’t figure out why. Sam successfully gained her purple belt and was elated on the way home, talking nonstop about how proud of herself she was.

On our way home, it was late, and Sam kept talking about her new belt and what she had to achieve to earn her next one. She kept telling me how proud of herself she was.

The streets were quiet, and as we passed an alley a few blocks from our apartment, Sam stopped and stared. looked around her, and there were three men beating someone up. “Hey, leave him alone,” Sam yelled before running down the alley. I followed her as quickly as l could.

The next thing I heard was a loud bang and Sam screaming. I didn’t know what was going on as Sam rushed to the man on the ground. “Frank. Frank,” she cried. Placing her hands on his chest, “Someone call an ambulance!” Sam screamed. I didn’t have a phone, so l turned and, as quickly as I could, made my way back to the alley, where I begged the first passerby to call an ambulance. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number. ” I don’t know what the problem is. Just send an ambulance.” He said, panicking.”Thank you,” I told him before rushing back to Sam and Frank.

I made my way back to Sam, whose hands were covered in blood. Frank was gasping for breath. “I’m sorry, Frank. I’m sorry.” Sam kept saying as tears ran down her face. I placed my hands over her to apply pressure.

“Sam,” Frank whispered, “Thank you.” He said just before his head fell backward and he stopped breathing. Sam wailed and angrily shouted at me, questioning me as to where the ambulance was.

I didn’t know what to do. I felt useless. So, I put my arm around her shoulders and pulled her face to my chest, stroking her short hair while we waited.
