Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 38

Caspian’s POV

I rushed to the hallway to catch Phillip and explain, but I was too late. He was nowhere in sight. I was almost deafened by Hawk, who was shouting at me and calling me all the names under the sun and moon for not getting rid of Evelyn quicker.

When I apologized again, he demanded I stop Phillip before he got to Reagan. Hawk didn’t need to tell me. I was already trying to catch up with Phillip. I had never moved so fast in my life. But the hallways I had walked all of’my life seemed a lot longer right then.

I mindlinked Phillip, and I felt the connection go through.

But Hawk was yelling so aggressively at me that he couldn’t hear me, and Phillip severed the connection. If only Hawk had shut up, I could have forced Phillip to stop.

But when I finally caught sight of Phillip, he was already talking with Reagan. I froze when I saw the pair talking.

My heart pounded as I approached them and faced my fate. I was so happy ten minutes ago, but now everything is gone. Reagan’s words rattled around my brain. ‘You have one chance. Make it count.’

Thanks to Evelyn, I may have lost that chance. I have lost my mate. That is, if Reagan or Sam finds out. I doubt Phillip would tell Reagan anything, as there was nothing to see. “You’re making excuses, you coward,” Hawk snapped at me, and he was right. I just needed a glimmerof hope.

All hope disappeared when Phillip dropped to his knees, holding up his hands to defend himself. “I’m sorry, your majesty. I wouldn’t have walked in if I’d known you were busy. I saw nothing. Please don’t kill me. You know, Sasha is expecting. You wouldn’t want our pup growing up without a father.”

I stopped breathing as my insides churned. I closed my eyes, waiting for the inevitable. The sound of a closing door was quickly followed by Reagan’s furious growl. As the firstborn son, Reagan will always hold more power than I will ever have, and judging by his growl, he’s ready to put me in my place.

“What do you mean he was busy?” Reagan snarled at Phillip angrily.

Phillip wasn’t my favorite person right now. But he didn’t deserve the brunt of Reagan’s anger. “Stop,” I instructed Reagan. I closed my eyes as I prepared to confess. “I got back to my office. Evelyn was there and caught me off guard. Which was when Phillip walked in.” Reagan growled at me.

“How can you fuck everything up in the few minutes you were gone?” He asked me through gritted teeth. Never before in my life had Reagan spoken to me with such hostility. “Phillip, Sam is going to need some clothes,” he said, attempting to speak calmly to him.

“My mate, Sasha. She has loads of clothes she can’t wear. They’ll be here for Sam in the morning. She’ll bring her anything she needs.” Phillip stuttered. Reagan accepted his offer and dismissed him. Sensibly, as soon as Phillip got to his feet, he ran off.

“So, how did it get into circulation if you didn’t approve it?” He snapped, pointing at my signature at the bottom of the document. It can’t be real, but if it is. Reagan is right, I’m not capable. “By morning, Evelyn will be gone. I promise you.”

“In the morning, I want to review everything that has changed since I have been gone, and I want a meeting with the Wolf Council.”

“Everything?” I asked.

“Everything. I can tell you didn’t know about this, but it got processed.” He snatched the piece of paper from my hand. “I want to know how it got past you and what else got past you.” Reagan looked at me, and the lines on his forehead disappeared. “I love you, Caspian. You can be a fool at times, but you are not an idiot. I fear someone has a hidden agenda, and I fear they’ll use your name todestroy the kingdom.”

Thinking for a second. “You think I’m the monkey?” Не nodded his head slowly.

“And I want to find out who the organ grinder is.” This referred to a joke we used to say as children. I had only been Alpha King for a few weeks. If someone is manipulating me, how are they doing it and why? I have confidence that Reagan will sort everything out. First things first. I need to get rid of Evelyn.
