Sam’s POV
I dreamed I was still in the dungeons, that those men were laughing as they stripped me of my dignity as well as my clothes. Tears filled my eyes about what those guards did to me down there, and when I woke to the smell of something I didn’t recognize.
I sat up, terrified that my rescue was a dream. As I fought with the bedsheets, I remembered what happened later that day, about Caspian and the mate bond. It had to have been real. As I calmed myself, I heard running water and Reagan cursing from the bathroom. I was definitely awake, if he were here.
Yesterday was extreme, and I’m still not fully sure that understood everything that happened. While I waited for Reagan, I lay back on the bed and talked to Zola about Caspian. He seemed nice, but so did Axel in the beginning, and look how that ended. “So we proceed with caution and any red flags. We reject his ass and we are out of here,” I told her. She was pleased that I was willing to give him a chance. Then we both agreed that we don’t like the Alpha King or his treatment of rogues.
Being in his home and being a rogue means I will have to be careful. But it’s unlikely our paths will cross, and he’d probably want to avoid me even if they did. He is far too important to be seen with the likes of me, anyway.
Reagan hopped out of the bathroom, using the furniturearound the room to support himself. He almost fell, andk rushed to his aid. “Caspian offered to organize a prosthetic for me. I think I’m going to put a rush on that order.” He said humorously.
I picked the women’s clothes from the end of the bed and rushed into the bathroom. I jumped into the shower and scrubbed my skin. I pulled my clothes a little tighter, remembering how I had been stripped of my last ones.
Phillip’s mate, Sasha. She will be bringing you some clothes. I just think it’s a bit early for her,” Reagan told me.
“Who’s Phillip?” I asked.
“I’ve known Phillip for a long time. Sam, if Caspian and I are not around, and you need something, you can speak to him. I trust him.” Reagan told me he had complete faith in the man. I don’t like strangers, but if Reagan trusts him, so should I. I started thinking about stuff when a knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts. Reagan would struggle to get there, but he would try. So I rushed to answer it.
Opening the door, a man was standing there holding a pair of crutches. He was wearing a uniform, so he had to be someone official. “I’ve brought these for Reagan,” he said. Handing me the crutches. I looked at him skeptically.
If he cared enough to bring these for Reagan, he must be someone who cared for him.
“Are you Phillip?” I asked. The man smiled and nodded.”
Come in,” I offered. He held his hands up.”Thank you. But I wouldn’t dare enter a couple’s private place. Especially when I am mated myself. I couldn’t imagine what my mate would think, never mind say, or do.” He told me. I didn’t understand what he was saying about a couple’s private place. I would have to ask Reagan later. I told Phillip to wait outside, and I rushed to Reagan and gave him the crutches. He used them to get to the door. The pair spoke, and then the word breakfast was mentioned.
“Sam, we’re going for breakfast,” Reagan yelled at me.
They were the magic words to get me moving, as I was starving. I followed Reagan down the long corridors.
Phillip walked behind the pair of us until we reached a targe door. Phillip rushed to open it for us. As soon as the door opened slightly. I could hear voices coming from inside. Reagan swung himself past Phillip, and I followed him. Not looking where I was going, I walked into the back of Reagan. Who had stopped? I walked to his side, about to apologize to him. That was when I realized the room had gone silent. I looked around, and every person in the room was staring at me.
The only thing I could hear was my heavy breathing and fast heartbeat. “Why are they staring at me?” I asked Zola instead of Reagan. “They may be staring at Reagan. He was supposed to be dead after all.” She suggested. If I had asked him, everyone would have heard. I wanted to turn and run back to my room.
But not Reagan, oh no. With confidence, he made his way inside. He made his way past so many empty tablesbefore selecting one in the center of the room. We were watched the entire time. “Let me get you some breakfast,” Phillip offered. To which Reagan nodded.
No one dared speak or approach our table, which worried me. “They are staring at me, not you. Don’t worry, Sam,” Reagan said, grabbing my hand to comfort me. It worked a little. But I was still concerned, as I felt exposed.
Phillip returned with some food for us. “Sasha will be here soon, Sam. She didn’t sleep well last night and is likely to be running a little late. I told her where we were,” he told me. I can’t complain; l am getting some free clothes. We were nearly finished eating, and Sasha hadn’t turned up yet. “Sasha’s just in the bathroom, Sam. She’ll be a few more minutes,” Phillip told me. He then turned to Reagan.
“There are a few members of the wolf council in Caspian’s office waiting for you.”
“They can continue to wait,” Reagan said, placing his fork on his plate.
“All you are, Evelyn. Is a hole for the Alpha King to fuck while he waits for his mate. I can guarantee that he will be cast aside when he finds her. Just like a pair of soiled panties.” | gasped, worrying that Sasha was going to get in trouble with the Alpha King if she carried on insulting Evelyn. Sasha placed a hand on my shoulder. I looked at her, and she smiled and winked at me.
“You know nothing about his feelings for me.”
“You’re right, I don’t, and it’s none of my business. But what I do know is thạt if the Alpha King takes a chosen mate? She will have to fit specific criteria, and having a magic pussy would not be taken into consideration?” Sasha leaned down to me and whispered in my ear.” Evelyn has had more cocks than the hens on the farm.” Laughter erupted around the room, as everyone could probably hear her.Evelyn’s nostrils flared, and her face turned as red as her cheap lipstick. “You nasty bitch. I’Il kill you,” Evelyn yelled, lunging for Sasha. But Sasha didn’t move.
“Now, now, Evelyn. You should remember to take heed of your surroundings,” Sasha said cockily. “Take a big whiff, Evelyn. Can’t you smell that sweet scent? A scent that only pregnant women produce.” Sasha squeezed my shoulder. “You can’t lay a finger on me. Not without it
– being reported to the head of security.” Evelyn sniffed the air as I did; there was a pregnant woman in my immediate vicinity. “Oh wait, you can’t even report me. Because you don’t live here.”
Evelyn screamed at Sasha, threatening her and her unborn child. “Wait, I want to write down your threats. So l can get them officially logged. It will show that you entered my home and threatened me while pregnant.
That won’t look good, even if you are considered to be a chosen mate for the Alpha King.”
Evelyn’s face turned sour, and I snickered loudly. “Ill make sure you both get what you deserve.” She snapped as she walked away. Sasha sat down next to me, apologizing for being late. I didn’t know which way to take Sasha. She was pleasant enough, and she defended me. But she had a sharp tongue, and I certainly wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of her cutting remarks.
“Watch your back when she’s around,” Sasha warned me.”
She’ll stab you in it for even an ounce of power.” Sasha’s warning immediately made me think of Lily, and thatmade me uncomfortable. If Evelyn was the sort of person. the Alpha King liked to be with. I pitied his fated mate.
