Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 41

Reagan’s POV

Although I have never needed the services of Dr. Monroe, I have met him many times over the years. I have relied on him for his medical knowledge more than anything. He is also an asset to have around for those people who are wolfless or pregnant.

At first, he felt awkward, and he kept calling me your majesty’. I was no longer the Alpha King, and I had to keep correcting him. In the end, he settled for calling me ‘sir’ as he didn’t feel comfortable calling me by my first name. To distract himself, he talked about the pregnancy spike within the kingdom. It was good to hear, as pregnancy meant the next generation of shifters was being born. He measured multiple parts of my body with a tape measure.

“Do you have a preference as to what style of leg you would like, sir?” I hadn’t even thought about it.

“What are my options? What is your opinion?” lasked him.

“This is not the sort of thing we offer in the wolf kingdom, so when I was asked about it. I did a quick bit of research on what humans had to offer. I wouldn’t call them visually appealing —they looked like a stick with an artificial foot on the end.” He confessed as he grimaced.

“I don’t care about how they look. I care about being mobile,” I told him. He smiled at me. “I’m glad you said that. There was something that caught my eye. If I may show you, sir.” He walked to his bag and pulled out a sheet of paper. I looked at the picture, It was a piece of curved metal with what looked like a sock at the top. “It’s a running blade, and it’s made out of carbon fiber. Athletes use them to compete. I was thinking this would be more suitable for a man like yourself.”

“Does it make them any faster?” I inquired.

“Humans are slow at the best of times. But amputees use these in competitions. I don’t see why you couldn’t use one to get you started and then we progress from there.” He was right. I just needed something.

“How long will it take to arrive?” I asked.

“That’s the thing with humans. It’s not about the time; it’s about the money. The more you are willing to offer. The faster you will have it.” Dr. Monroe smiled at me. “Can I assume the faster, the better, sir?”

“You read my mind, Dr. Monroe,” I told him. He responded by telling me he would order my prosthetic today.

After Dr. Monroe left, I started worrying about Callan.

About how he is going to cope long-term. With the help of an aide, I will walk again, but Callan. He will never be able to run with the pack or fight for his kingdom. I fear he will never feel like a real wolf again. I was getting a headache worrying about him when Phillip entered the room with some food. He was going to have lunch with Sasha.

He set the plates on the desk, as I could see two piles of files that Caspian had left me. No doubt, I would be boredafter a few and would appreciate the distraction.

I picked up the first file. It was a policy that the head of the Royat Guard did not want pregnant she-wolves taking in combat training. Caspian’s signature was at the bottom in agreement. I attempted to implement this once before, as I didn’t want anything to happen to the pups. But I was opposed by angry, hormonal women, who claimed it was their right to fight as they saw fit. “Caspian must have had – some backlash from implementing that policy,” I told myself while snickering because it was his problem.

The next policy was a request from the education department. They wanted to implement compulsory training sessions before and after school for teenagers. I had mixed feelings about that. Training is important, but teenagers need to learn life skills as well. Not every teenager becomes a warrior, but they will all need to learn how to care for themselves. But there at the bottom of the page was Caspian’s signature.

I looked at the policy request and the attachments and the names of those involved in the consultation. But there wasn’t any. Has Caspian just agreed with this?

The next file I opened related to rogues. It stated that if a rogue is captured anywhere, they could be detained and stripped of their possessions and rights. That, without question, they were to be sent to the Elysium prison to start a sentence of hard labor until they died. I felt sick as I looked at my brother’s signature at the bottom of the page. This wasn’t right. I instantly thought of Sam. Shewas a rogue, and I don’t believe Sam was an isolated case.

She became a rogue, not out of choice but out of survival.

“Tell Sasha she has finished her lunch. I will not wait. I need you here now.” I mindlinked him again. This time, my anger was growing over his casual attitude.

Caspian eventually walked into his office. Ignoring my furious face.

. “She’s amazing,” he said dreamily.

“What the hell have you been doing?” I finally snapped, losing my temper.

“Enjoying Sam’s company,” he responded.

I threw the file I-was holding at him. “I meant with the kingdom. This is…” I couldn’t finish my sentence. I was so angry. I took a breath. “Did you even read these? I damn well hope so seeing that you have signed it.”

He read one of the pieces of paper, and his jaw dropped.” What the hell? I…I’ve never seen this. It’s my signature, but I have never seen this,” he said defensively. He can’t act like this. He is the Alpha King. The people need to rely on him. I pulled myself up onto my foot.

“You’ve signed them all.” I snapped angrily. “Now, what are you going to do about it?”
