Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 51

Sam’s POV

When Xavier told me about the lies Axel had told everyone, I felt sick. It hurt that people believed them. He spun a tale where Garth and were the villains, and he was the innocent victim of betrayal. That will be why no one questioned why Gunner killed Garth so horribly.

Knowing Axel was still after me made me angry; then again, everything about the man’s actions made me angry. I doubt Axel would attempt anything, not while I am here representing the Alpha King. Not while I’m under the protection of Reagan, Phillip, and Xavier. It was Lily I had more concerns about. She was cunning and manipulative, capable of anything. Even murder.

After I climbed out of the car, butterflies flew frantically in my stomach. I grabbed Reagan’s hand; a little moral support wouldn’t go amiss. “So far, so good,” I told Zola.

Who was as anxious as I was.

As we approached the packhouse, the double doors flew open and a group of young girls scurried outside, giggling.

I recognized a few of them from school as they were in the year below Lily and me. “Lily must be surrounding herself with new friends to make her feel popular. It’s not like anyone would call her a friend.” I told Zola, mocking Lily.

Previously, she wouldn’t have been caught hanging around with ‘kids’, as Lily called them.

Then she walked through the doorway in a bright pinkoutfit that was far too tight for her. My former friend, my tormentor. The woman who took everything I had, and for what? Power? Influence? A title? She could have had it all. If Axel had only rejected our mate bond.

But he didn’t, and her jealousy almost killed me. I was so mixed up seeing her and thinking about what she put me through that my heart nearly pounded out of my chest. I tried to process my emotions, but there were so many, t didn’t know where to start. But I knew one thing: my tormentor had a name, and I would be using it; she didn’t deserve any other title, not friend, not Luna. No, she was ” Lily,” I said her name through my gritted teeth.

It was a fight-or-flight sort of moment. My instincts told me to run. “You’re not the same person you were back then, Sam. She has no power over you. Not unless you allow her to have it. Remember who you are now.” Zola reminded me, and she was right. Reagan gripped my hand and growled, but he didn’t move. I didn’t know what was going on with him, but his eyes kept changing as if he was struggling with his wolf.

“Luna. These people are here on behalf of the Alpha King,” Xavier yelled, loud enough for everyone to hear. Informing Lily of who we were. I wasn’t sure why he hadn’t mindlinked her when we arrived.

“Perhaps he did. He is simply informing everyone else of who you are. So you can treat Lily with the respect she deserves,” Zola suggested. Her comment made me snicker. Respect her? There are many things I would like to do to Lily, but giving her respect is not one of them. The girls on the porch were looking and pointing at us. Who am I kidding? It’s me they are pointing at.

Lily was all smiles as she descended the steps. I glared at her in disgust as the slit in her hideous dress went to the hip. Her smile disappeared, and she gave Reagan a thorough once-over. She then growled at him. He growled back at her.

Then Lily turned her gaze to me, her sneer turned to disgust. She folded her arms. “I’m surprised to see you alive, Samantha,” Lily scoffed. “More than that, am surprised you would show your ugly face with your horrid hairstyle here in this pack. Especially after what you did.” She paused. “After everyone you did,” she said, mocking me and looking over her shoulder to check that people were listening. Their laughter gave her the reaction she desired. What exactly is she implying?

More and more people started gathering around us. “It’s a shame Axel’s not here, Samantha. He’s dying to see you,” she said with a huge smile. I was shocked by her remarks.

But I was also shocked that Reagan let her get away with what she was saying. He’s not one to let her insults slide.

“Lily.” A voice I recognized roared from inside the pack house. “Is that any way for a Luna to talk to our esteemed guests?” Eliza Thorne yelled, appearing in the doorway.

When I was learning Luna’s duties, I spent a lot of time with Eliza. She didn’t have a problem with me. It was just that I didn’t want to be the pack’s Luna, and my lack of enthusiasm annoyed her. Hearing her scold Lily. Made me happy.

I was worried about Reagan, as he still hadn’t spoken since we arrived. “I’m sorry. The invitation is to be placed directly into the hands of the pack’s Alpha,” Phillip told her.

“I’m this pack’s Luna, you can trust me.” She suggested flirtatiously.

“I wouldn’t care if you were the goddess herself. This invitation is to be placed in the hands of the Alpha.” Lilylost her smile as she realized that Phillip didn’t care whà she was. If it were appropriate, I would have cheered for him.

“How about I get someone to take it from you?” Lily snapped her fingers and pointed at me, and a couple of warriors stepped forward. Philip took a fighting stance.

“They would have to go through me first,” Xavier said, stepping forward. “As per my orders. Until they leave this pack. These three are under my protection. I dare anyone to try and lay a finger on any of them.” He said loudly enough for everyone to hear. Lily was huffing and puffing at Xavier as he was ignoring her order. The warriors backed off, knowing they didn’t have a chance.

I saw former Alpha Drake pushing his way through the crowd. I had always respected him as an Alpha. He was kind to me following my parents’ passing, and later when moved into the packhouse.

I yanked my hand from Reagan’s as whatever was bothering him had incapacitated him. “Besides,” I fanned myself with the invitation. “This has to be in pristine condition when it is presented at the palace. One tear, one blemish, voids it. If Axel isn’t present at the ceremony, he is to be replaced.” I grinned at Lily. “What do you think Axel would do? If he lost the pack because of you?”| asked Lily. I went to bite the invitation.

“No,” Lily screamed. I guess she knows what she will lose if anything happens to this piece of card.”Who is in charge right now?” I asked, glaring at her. “And to think I’m no one special.”
