Sam’s POV
Today should have been special. It should be the morning after Caspian and I accepted our mate bond. Bound ourselves together forever. It should be one of the happiest days of my life. But instead, Zola and I feel crushed. Heartbroken that the person who saved me, took care of me, and got me back on my feet. She is missing, maybe even dead. Zola and I have done nothing but cry.
Worse yet, the palace will soon be swarming with important people here to celebrate the Alpha King taking amate. I had never met the man, and despite what happened when I first arrived. I wish him all the happiness in the world. A mate bond is something special and should be cherished.
Although everyone in the palace knows who am, visitors don’t. I dare not leave my suite, as l am still classified as a rogue. I wouldn’t want any misunderstandings on the Alpha King’s big day. So I lay in bed, worrying and crying.
A familiar knock on my door told me that Sasha was here.”
Hey,” she cheerily said as she walked into the room. I didn’t move. “How are you doing?” She said, sitting on the bed next to me, stroking my hair.
I looked at her and cried. “They’ll find her,” Sasha assured me. “Reagan and Phillip went out last night and retrieved her truck. The trackers are out there searching for her. It’s only a matter of time,” she said calmly. I nodded, knowing she was right. But logic was out the window, as she wasn’t here right now.
Sasha smiled at me. “What’s up with you?” I asked.
“I shouldn’t say, not before I tell Phillip,” she said. I didn’t ask, respecting what she had just said. She jumped onto the bed, all excited, kneeling in front of me. “But he has gone into some big meeting with Caspian and Reagan.
And I need to tell someone.” She grabbed my hands and put them on her slightly swollen stomach. “I felt the pup move today,” she told me. No matter how bad I felt, I couldn’t take this special moment away from Sasha. So l plastered on a smile and pressed a bit firmer on her stomach. Trying to join her in her excitement.
“I can’t feel anything,” I told her after a minute.
She kept on smiling, not phased at all. “Maybe it’s too small to feel outside my body. I’m just so excited. My little pup gave its mommy a sign,” she said, wrapping her arms around herself. “It made me feel connected to it.”
After her little emotional boast, she dragged me to the seating area in front of the window. So we could watch cars and trucks arrive for the upcoming celebrations.” What’s the Alpha King’s mate like?” I asked Sasha.
She looked at me and smiled. “She’s kind and beautiful, and I, for one, can’t wait for her to take her place by his side. I can tell she will be a fair and just ruler who always thinks of others.””She sounds amazing,” I said.
Sasha took my hands. “She is, and I know the Alpha King loves her dearly.” I think she would have carried on telling me about her. But a knock at the door interrupted the conversation. “That will be the food I requested,” Sasha said happily, rushing to the door. “Steak and veg,” she declared, setting the tray down on the table in front of me. She lifted the lid off her plate. “Yummy, just how wanted it.” Seeing the blood on the steak caused me to grimace. Zola wouldn’t complain about eating something so rare. But it’s not my thing.
“I wanted mine rarer today. I’m putting it down to cravings. The iron boost will be good for me, I have a long day ahead. Don’t worry, Sam, yours is medium,” she said, laughing.
Go and get my sister.”
“Get ready quickly. I’ll take her straight to the palace garden. Then I’ll go and get Caspian.” She instructed me, doing another happy dance, and this time I joined her.
After a few seconds, she rushed toward the door. She won’t recognize Ellie as they had never met. “Ellie’s wolf is called Kiki,” I yelled at her in case she needed something personal to confirm it was her. Before Sasha left the room. Sasha turned around. “I’m so happy, Sam. It’s all coming together.” She said before she disappeared.
“Thank you, Goddess, for bringing her to me.” I hadn’t prayed to the goddess in such a long time. But it felt right in that moment. Sasha was right, it is all coming together at last-my happily ever after was finally a possibility. ” You’ll get nothing if you don’t get ready. Your mating ceremony needs to be done before the Alpha King’s,” Zola reminded me.
As pulled open the wardrobe doors, there on a mannequin stood the beautiful white ceremonial dress that Caspian’s mother wore for her mating ceremony. It’s an honor to wear something so beautiful and personal.
The only thing missing was my mom’s necklace. But that is a lost cause.
Regardless, everything was slotting into place. Nothing could stop us from becoming mates now. Nothing.
