Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 76

Reagan’s POV

Reviewing the pictures Xander sent to Caspian. We discussed each picture in depth. It was evident that an animal had killed Richard. It was also evident that the creature possessed teeth, claws, and a hostile nature. My mind immediately believed it was a wolf that took his life

Considering what Richard was investigating, I wondered if he was getting too close to discovering the truth or if he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We must have been looking at the screen for well over an hour when I got up, needing a break from the screen. That was when I saw how stressed Caspian looked. The frown Line across his brow told me how burdened he was. “Are you okay?” I asked full well, knowing that he wasn’t. He looked at me and shook his head, tears filling his eyes.

“It’s all going to shit. Reagan. I don’t know how to process what’s going on. Everything was on track with Sam, and now Evelyn does this to me.” He told me honestly.

I looked at him. “If Evelyn is pregnant with your child, Caspian. You will do the right thing for the child. You will need to tell Sam before the mating ceremony. Of everything you are keeping from her. She needs to know that.” I tried to tell him everything would be okay when Phillip returned with some drinks for us all.

“Isn’t Dr. Monroe back yet? He has been gone for quite awhile. It only took two minutes for the test to confirm Sasha’s pregnancy,” he reminded us.

Caspian and I exchanged a look of concern. “Can you check up on him?” Caspian asked Phillip before he pulled out a file from his desk drawer. I remember Richard leaving a file when he was here a few weeks ago. “Maybe we will find some answers in here,” Caspian said to me, opening the manila file.

I shuffled through the pieces of paper in the file. I noticed Richard had gathered a lot of information about my attack. He also had a lot of unanswered questions on a sheet. There was also a list of potentially involved packs and people he suspected, including members of the wolf council. It was a cause for concern, as the situation seemed to be more serious than I knew. “Why didn’t Richard ask for help?” I asked.

“Look at that list, Reagan. He wouldn’t have known who he could trust. If Richard was right, all of these people were involved. They would have wanted him silenced before getting any concrete evidence.” I looked at the list of names again.

“That can’t be what got him killed. Looking at this file, he had no proof of anything. Not unless he found some since he dropped this file off.”

“Do you not find it strange that Richard was the person I chose to officiate my ceremony, and he got killed?” Caspian said quietly.Caspian’s words struck me.

“That could be it, you know.

Perhaps no one knew about Richard’s investigation.

Someone is trying to stop you from taking a mate of your own choice. Richard’s murder was supposed to delay your ceremony. When it didn’t work, Evelyn turned up and faked a pregnancy.” I looked at the pictures again, hoping Whoever killed Richard hadn’t found his up-to-date investigation notes; it had to be in his car somewhere. But as I scanned the pictures, Phillip burst through the door, yelling that there was a clear sign of a struggle in Evelyn’s suite. “I didn’t go any further than I had to. But neither Dr. Monroe nor Evelyn was there.”

“No one tells the Alpha King who to take as a mate,”

Caspian yelled angrily. “We get to the bottom of this; we end it tonight. Phillip get to the gate and make sure no one leaves,” Caspian instructed Phillip. Who sped away without hesitation?

Caspian and I raced to Evelyn’s assigned room, bursting through the door. Phillip was right; there had been a struggle. Stepping inside, I could smell blood, but couldn’t see where it was coming from.

While Caspian looked around the room, I made my way to the only closed door in the room, the bathroom. I twisted the handle and opened the door slightly. The smell of copper seeped through the door. I pushed it open fully to see Dr. Monroe lying face down on the ground, surrounded by a pool of blood. “Caspian,” I said, staring at my old friend. Caspian rushed to my side. When he saw what I was looking at, he growled.”Evelyn. She silenced him. It sentenced him from finding out she wasn’t pregnant.” I could believe it, as Dr. Monroe was completely honest. He’d never lie for anyone.

I looked at Caspian. “Dr. Monroe may have been old, but Evelyn wouldn’t have been able to kill him; she’s too weak.”

“Not unless she had help. This place is crawling with people. Any one of them could have been her accomplice.” Caspian said before pausing, “A cold-blooded murder was committed in my home by one of my guests,” Caspian growled. “We find Evelyn, we make her tell us who helped her, and then. Then we destroy them all publicly.” Caspian snapped angrily. I wanted to tell him he couldn’t kill anyone without evidence. But he seemed beyond reason.

Sam will be the only one who can calm him right now. But I didn’t want to leave him alone in case he did something stupid. I raced after him.

“Where is Sam?” Callan asked as I made my way toward Ellie. Of all the people around Ellie, none of them was Sam.

“Ellie,” I yelled, trying to get her attention. But she didn’t hear me. “Ellie,” | yelled again as I got closer. But she didn’t hear me, or if she did, she ignored me as she didn’t turn around.

“Ellie,” I said as I touched her shoulder, but she didn’t move. As I walked around her, I was shocked to see that her eyes were black, and her teeth were clenched. This wasn’t the Ellie I knew. This is what Ellie always feared she would become should she ever lose control.

I stroked her face gently, begging her to come back to me.

But she didn’t recognize me. The screaming people around me made me aware that I needed to do something.

“I’m sorry, Ellie,” I said before slapping her, trying to get her to regain herself. She didn’t react, and the screaming men and women around us, their screams intensified.

“How do I stop her?” I asked Callan, afraid that if I harmed her again, she might unintentionally murder dozens of people.

“I don’t know if you can. Your only chance is to find Sam,” he said, panicking.

“Sam’s not our only chance. There must be a reason l am immune to her power,” I told my wolf.

“You’re going to hate me for this, Ellie. But not as much as you will hate yourself if you kill them.” I told Ellie as l grabbed hold of her hair, tilting her head to the side and biting her neck.
