Reagan’s POV
I was furious to learn about Sunak’s private meeting with Caspian. I nearly destroyed his office door with anger when I got there.
My anger reached a whole new level when I saw Caspian kneeling at Sunak’s feet. “You,” I yelled at Sunak. It was so loud that I think the entire palace heard me. Without hesitation and before he could move, I raced over to Sunak and grabbed hold of him by his throat.
Callan wanted his aura to force a confession from Sunak, but told him he didn’t need to, as would deal with this situation. I had pieced it all together on my way here.
Sunak knew I was on my way to see him when I was attacked. Sunak was the one who rushed through Caspian’s coronation. He used Evelyn
‘to manipulate Caspian. Knowing his aggressive nature, Sunak was the one who left Sam and Sasha with him. Sunak may not have been the one who killed Sasha’s baby, but he let it happen. If Evelyn became pregnant with Caspian’s child. It’s plausible that he would try to murder Caspian and then control the throne through his grandchild.
I once thought of him as a friend. But the entire time, he was plotting against me. He deserved to die a horrible death at my hands. Sunak’s grin disappeared as | tightened my grip around his throat. His eyes bulged, and he gasped as I lifted him into the air. “Reagan, stop. He has Sam,” Caspian said, protecting Sunak. “She will be killed if anything happens to him.”
I looked at Sunak’s red face as he tried to smile. “That’s what he told you? Well, only a few minutes ago I was with Sam. He has no one, Caspian. He can’t even breathe on her.” Sunak’s eyes widened as he clawed at my hand. He probably realized I had the upper hand.
“Thank the goddess,” Caspian said, breathing a sigh of relief. “Now drop him.” I looked at my brother in disbelief. There was no chance was letting Sunak walk away unscathed. “Reagan, Tam the Alpha King.
Do as I say.” Caspian demanded.
I could disobey Caspian, but that would show him I have no respect for him. I wouldn’t do that, not to my brother. So I did as he asked, kicking Sunak with my prosthetic as he squirmed on the floor, gasping for breath.
Caspian walked over to him, and much to my disgust. I thought-Caspian was going to help Sunak off the floor. But instead, he stood over him. “You had your daughter attempt to tear my relationship apart with my mate,” he yelled at Sunak before punching him in the face. I heard Sunak’s jaw crack, and I felt a sense of satisfaction.” Knowing who she was, you held my mate against her will. You detained the Luna Queen.” Caspian yelled as he punched him again.
Sunak’s face was a mess, and he held up his hands to protect himself.” But worst of all, you threatened to have her killed. That is unforgivable.” Caspian flew into a rage and punched Sunak repeatedly until he smashed through his skull. Even then he didn’t stop, not until his brain was mush.
I simply stood there and watched. Sunak deserved everything he had gotten. I wanted to do it, but it was Caspian’s place to defend his mate.
When he had finished, Caspian stood up and demanded that | take him to Sam. “Whoa there, little brother. Don’t speak to me that way. You may be the Alpha King, but you only got that role because Sunak convinced everyone I was dead. I may not have the title, but I’m the one with the power.”
“Sorry, Reagan,” he said, “I am just so desperate to see Sam. Please, brother, take me to her.”
“You’re a mess. Get changed, or she won’t let you near her.”
After quickly washing and changing his clothes, we made our way to the front of the palace, where I abandoned my car. On the way, I told Caspian briefly about Sasha. “But neither Sasha nor Phillip knows yet am hoping Ellie will help me tell him.” Despite only briefly meeting Ellie, he agreed that it may be best to let her do it. She had the medical knowledge after all. “Besides, I also needed to explain things to Sam.
It’s my lies that got us into this mess,” he confessed.
As we got to my car, Phillip was comforting Sasha. “What’s going on, Reagan? What happened to her? Is the baby okay?” He asked me.
“Sam says the word, and I will make it happen. Trust me on that.” Caspian was serious, but I know it’s not in Sam’s nature to execute anyone.
As we looked around the gardens for Sam and Ellie, there was no one there. “Where could they be?” Caspian said, panicking. Caspian sent out a mindlink, asking if anyone had seen Sam.
“Sam? The little rogue that’s been staying at the palace?” Kevin responded.
“She’s not a rogue. She’s my mate,” Caspian mindlinked everyone in the palace, making it clear who she was.
“Sorry, Your Majesty, I didn’t know. I saw your mate in the garage a little while ago. She was with another woman,” Kevin responded.
Caspian and I raced to the garage, but we couldn’t see either Sam or Ellie anywhere. We looked everywhere, but only found traces of their scent. “What’s that?” I asked, noticing a piece of a paper window of Ellie’s truck. Caspian sprinted over and pulled it from under the wiper.
He read it for a few seconds and dropped to his knees, crying. Telling me he had screwed up. I knelt and comforted my brother, picking up the piece of paper.’Caspian, you lied to me about everything. I never want to see you again. Sam.”
I felt awful for Caspian. He had lost his fated mate. But I shared his pain. Ellie wasn’t my fated mate, but I wished she were. But now they were both gone. What had we done?
