Ellie’s POV
If the rogues are not free to leave, they are held prisoner. I don’t like it when humans cage animals, and I certainly don’t like it when a person does it to another person.
The guards stood side by side with their backs to me. All of them were over 6 feet tall and in military uniforms. To a lesser person, I could imagine they were quite intimidating. But they don’t scare me.
People were crying and praying to their goddess to save them. I felt it was my duty to protect them regardless of who they were. They had done nothing wrong. “What are you going to do?” Kiki asked. She was worried that if I got angry, I would hurt not only the guards but also the ones I was trying to save.
I clenched the small bunny in my hand. “I need to get inside,” I told her.
So, I did what anyone would. “Hey, mister, let my mom go. Or you’ll be sorry.” I yelled.
There were growls, and a guard broke the barrier and rushed over to me. “How the hell did you get out?” He yelled as he grabbed me by the hair, forcing me to walk toward the gap he had just made. I pretended to cry as the guards widened the hole so I could be thrown inside with the rogues.
As I picked myself up off the ground, a familiar voice called out my name. “Ellie? What are you doing here?” Ingrid asked. She was crying and clutching baby Elis to her chest.
“Is he okay?” I asked, looking at the small sleeping baby wrapped up in a blanket. “I came to check that everyone was okay. To check on Sam, is she here?” I asked
“Have you lost your mind, Ellie? They’re talking about killing all of us.
You have just sealed your fate by walking in here.””Technically, I was thrown in,” I corrected Ingrid. She didn’t seem impressed by my correction. “I wanted to bring Elis his teddy. Wouldn’t want him to forget me.” Tears rolled down Ingrid’s face.
She hugged Elis. “You’re going to die with the rest of us. My baby is not going to get a chance to grow up,” she cried, full of concern for me.” Ellie. It happened all of a sudden. Guards charged into the camp. We tried to stop them, but there were too many.”
“Where is Sam? Did they hurt her?” I asked, fearing she had gotten hurt during the invasion.
Ingrid shook her head. “A black wolf showed up before anyone got hurt. He ripped the afm off a soldier who was holding on to Sam. He saved her; he saved us all. Something happened, and we were all brought here. They took Sam and the male shifter inside. I haven’t seen either of them since.” She cried
Caspian saved her; he saved them all. “I should think so; Sam is his mate.” Kiki snapped.
“Spread the word, anyone with a wolf. Pinch your nose, or suffer the same fate as the guards,” I told Ingrid. I didn’t expect her to return, but I gave her a few minutes before I approached the guard who threw me in here. “You need to release us immediately,” I demanded. The guard and those on either side of him snickered.
“We don’t take orders from rogues,” he stated, pushing my shoulder.
I smiled at him. “That’s where you’re mistaken. I am not a rogue. am a lone wolf, but I don’t like what you’re doing to the rogues. So I repeat, let us go.”
He snickered again but didn’t move. “So that’s how it is?” I said, rolling up my sleeves. “Let’s see how long it takes for me to make you move then,” I told the guards while they smirked at me.
” bet you were one of the ones who hurt my sister,” I said.Remembering what had happened to Sam here at the palace when she first got here. “I bet you and your friends laughed at her as she suffered.” I snarled, thinking of how humiliated she was when she was telling of her time here.
The guard’s smile disappeared as he started to shake. “I bet you all watched as she got hurt,” I yelled. The guards began to fall to the ground, holding their heads, crying out. “I bet you found pleasure in her pain.” I snarled.
“Everybody follow me,” Aaron yelled, carrying a young girl over his shoulder. The pack followed him. But I stayed where I was. I would be making sure no one is left behind.
I took a deep breath. “I love Sam so much. But I have to let her go. She has to live her life, the ups and the downs. But for me. I have to go home. Alone.”
“Why?” Reagan questioned.
“You know why. I’m dangerous. Not only to Sam, but to everyone.”
He grabbed my arm. “Ellie, stop being stupid. You could stay here with Sam.” He gulped. “You could stay here with me,” he suggested.
I smiled as I pulled my arm away from him. “And live a life where everyone fears me. Where I can’t do what I love. No, thank you. Once Aaron and the others are safe. I will say goodbye to Sam, and I will head home to South View. That is where I belong,” I told him.
“Ellie. What can I say to make you stay?” he asked as he paced back and forward. Running his hands through his hair. He then grabbed both of my arms. “Ellie, we could be together. We could even have a family if that’s what you want. You could have your happily ever after,”Reagan offered. His words pleased Kiki. But she reminded me, there is no happily ever after for me. I’m cursed.
“Don’t make this harder than it already is, Reagan. Kiki and I accepted a long time ago that we had to be alone. That we were to live an isolated life. It was foolish of me to grow attached to Sam.” The thought of losing her made me sad inside. Because of my love for her, I’ve resorted to extreme measures, including murder. This cant continue. “I’ll telt her before | leave. Let her have some happiness; she deserves that.”
“It’s what you deserve, too, Ellie,” Reagan stated. Maybe he is right.
Maybe in the future we could be together. But right now, it isn’t. Sam may have forgiven Caspian. But I haven’t. That could be another problem.
