Reagan’s POV
Hearing Ellie say exactly what was on my mind convinced me I needed to try harder to make her stay with me. We were so in sync mentally and physically.
My happiness was short-lived as we traveled to the Shadow Pack.
Other than having cowards in positions of authority, I have nothing against the pack itself. But I am concerned about Callan, how he will react when he senses the mate that rejected him. Regardless of how strong and stoic he acts, he will still sense her. He was heartbroken when she severed the bond. Because of the help of those around him, particularly Ellie, he’s become stronger. He has now accepted what happened to him. I just hope he remembers that when he sees Lily.
As we pulled up to the border of the Shadow Pack, Phillip rolled down his window and spoke to the guards. “We have business with the Alpha and the Luna,” he said sternly, handing over his credentials. The guard rightly told us that, given Phillips’ royal position, he would have someone come to the gate to meet us.
After he mindlinked someone, the guard told us someone was on their way. I was excited to see the reaction of whoever turned up. Would it be the Playboy Alpha, who thinks with his cock, or his bully of a Beta?
To my surprise, it was Xavier, the head warrior. He must be the only one in this pack who does any work. Sam was happy to see him. But he didn’t look happy to see her. “How can I help you?” Xavier asked Phillip after checking out Phillip’s documentation and ID.
“There is something in the packhouse belonging to my friend. We are here to retrieve it,” I heard Phillip tell Xavier.
“I’m sorry, I can’t grant you entry. After your last visit, I believe you pose a potential threat to my Alpha or Luna. As head warrior, it is my job to protect them. I will raise a formal complaint with the Alpha King if you enter by force.”I like Xavier; he’s old school. He may not like who he serves, but he follows a code. Maybe it’s his age, but there aren’t many like him around these days. He is a man of honor.
I stepped out of the car and approached Xavier. “You will stand aside and let us pass. This is not a request;, it’s a demand. You can raise it with anyone you like.” I growled at Xavier, Callan’s aura flowing through me. Xavier dropped to his knees, baring his neck. The other surrounding guards fell to the ground in submission, baring their necks to me.
On one knee, I knelt next to Xavier. “I am sorry about doing this to you, but your Luna has something my friend wants, and I promised her l would get it,” I told Xavier as he strained against Callan’s aura. “We do not intend to hurt anyone, but if we are met with force, we are prépared to defend ourselves,” I warned Xavier. Who seemed to understand what I was saying.
I pulled back Callan’s aura, releasing Xavier from Callan’s hold. He panted as he tried to catch his breath. I extended my hand to him to his feet. He looked up at me. “Who are you?” Xavier asked as he accepted my hand
As he stood, I looked Xavier in the eyes. “Once upon a time, I was the Alpha King. Now my brother is.” Xavier’s jaw dropped, and he went to bow. But I stopped him. I may be of royal blood, but l am no longer the Alpha King. This wasn’t necessary.
” I know, but it is an old-fashioned tradition that when a royal enters a pack, they are escorted,” I told her as Phillip followed Xavier’s wolf.
Along the way, Sam pointed out areas of the pack and shared some of her memories with us. She even pointed out the street she grew up on.
No one asked her questions, as no matter how many happy memories she had here, she had some terrible ones. As the car came to a halt in front of the packhouse, we all climbed out. Xavier shifted and stood behind us. I was impressed and surprised by his knowledge of the old laws.
Axel came rushing out of the packhouse, putting on a shirt. The Alpha is to lead by example; he should have been at the first training session of the day. It was now midday. What had he been doing since he got up? I had no idea why he was still the Alpha here. I guess it’s because Caspian has had to replace so many; he hasn’t gotten to the Shadow Pack yet. I will make sure he does. “How the hell are you still alive?
What the hell do you want in my pack?” He yelled.
