Although Madison had walked away, she had kept a discreet eye on Kaitlyn and Johnny the whole time.
By reading their lips, she could roughly make out what they were talking about. She sneered to herself.
Were they planning to have her be the sucker who would settle their debts for them? What a clever little scheme.
Unfortunately, she wasn't going to let them get their way this time.
Looking away, Madison casually pointed out a few outfits that suited her and told the sales assistant to add them to the previous batch for checkout.
A while later, Kaitlyn came over with Johnny in tow.
With a sweet smile, she said, "Maddie, I've already explained everything to Johnny. Just get whatever you want. He's going to pay for all of it!"
Madison lifted an eyebrow, her voice languid as she spoke, "Oh, perfect timing then. I'm done picking out the clothes I want. You can take him to the counter to pay for them."
Failing to catch what was off about her words, Kaitlyn led Johnny to the counter.
Hearing that they were paying for Madison, the sales assistant pointed at the shopping bags that had already been packed and warmly said, "Sir, these are all the items Ms. Quinn picked out. The total comes to 1.127 million dollars."
"What? How much did you just say?" Johnny's voice shot up as his eyes widened in disbelief.
The sales assistant was taken aback for a moment. Despite the awkwardness, she maintained a polite smile and said, "It's 1.127 million dollars, sir. Would you like to pay by card or via a mobile wallet?"
Johnny realized he hadn't misheard after she had repeated the outrageous number. His face turned a shade darker.
Whipping his head toward Kaitlyn, Johnny gritted out, "Didn't you say it would only be a few hundred thousand? All these are worth over a million!"
His pained expression made Kaitlyn silently thank her lucky stars. She was glad she had gotten Johnny to come. Otherwise, she would be the one bleeding money while feeling humiliated.
With that in mind, she urged, "It's only a million dollars. I know you have enough for that. Pay for them already, unless you don't want Madison to forgive you."
Though both of them were terrified of being broke, the way they handled money couldn't be more different.
Kaitlyn loved spending Madison's money to keep up her image as a wealthy lady.
Johnny, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. He had kept every cent he had ever gotten out of Madison in the bank and lived off the interest he earned.
He was the definition of a penny-pincher who wouldn't even spend a dime unnecessarily.
