When Kaitlyn returned, she instinctively glanced at the wine glasses she had set down earlier.
Seeing that both glasses were still on the crack between the ceramic tiles where she had deliberately placed them, she looked away furtively and walked over to Janet. "Here's the wine you wanted, Ms. Burke."
She held out the glass of wine in her hand.
Janet glanced at her and took it without making any further demands.
Kaitlyn then picked up the wine she had prepared specially for Madison and held it out to her. "Maddie, try this wine—it's the hotel's specialty. Let's see if it's as effective as they claim."
"Sure!" Madison replied before taking a sip of the wine.
Noticing Kaitlyn was staring at her, Madison narrowed her eyes. She was even more certain something was wrong with the wine, just as she had suspected.
Madison suddenly asked, "Aren't you going to try this special wine?"
Kaitlyn seemed to come out of her reverie and immediately smiled. "Of course I will."
She hastily picked up the other glass. She began taking small sips of the wine while waiting for the drug to take effect on Madison.
After a few minutes, Kaitlyn felt her eyelids growing heavier. Before falling unconscious, she saw Madison walking anxiously toward her.
Madison caught Kaitlyn just as the latter slipped into unconsciousness. She yelled anxiously while patting Kaitlyn's cheeks, "What's the matter, Kaitlyn?"
Noticing Kaitlyn leaning against Madison's shoulder and seeing her cheeks flush red, the others asked in surprise, "What's wrong with Kate?"
At that moment, Janet pointed at the glass of wine beside Kaitlyn and said, "She's probably drunk."
"Drunk?"
Everyone except Madison was surprised.
Kaitlyn didn't have a particularly high tolerance for alcohol, but she wasn't the sort to get drunk after just one glass of wine, either.
Madison looked at the others and said impassively, "This is a specialty wine made by the hotel to go with the jacuzzi. It's different from other wines."
"I see." Realization dawned on the others, and someone suggested taking Kaitlyn back to her room.
Madison did not loosen her grip on Kaitlyn. "Jan and I are familiar with this place, so we can take her back to her room. Continue enjoying yourselves."
The others had no objection. They rarely got to visit such luxurious places, and they did not want to waste the rare opportunity they had managed to get for free.
Therefore, Madison and Janet supported Kaitlyn between them and went back to her hotel room.
