Willow shot him a warning glare. “My father needs to rest.”
Beasley stood his ground. “I’ll leave as soon as he answers.”
This was about Willow's safety. He wasn't going anywhere, no matter how much she resented him for it. Willow was so angry she felt like grabbing the nearest object and hitting him with it.
Klein had been unconscious for over a dozen hours. Though he was weak, his memory was intact. He knew Beasley wouldn't leave without an answer, so he began to speak. “I only remember being in the parking garage of my apartment building. As I was making a turn, someone suddenly ran out and collapsed after bumping into my car. I got out to check, and the man said his leg was injured and asked me to take him to the hospital, so I helped him into the car. After that… things are a blur.”
“But I have a dashcam in my car,” Klein added, looking at Beasley. “We can check the footage to see what happened.”
Willow’s eyes darkened as she turned to Beasley, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “I imagine Mr. Windsor already had someone check my father’s car last night. Is the dashcam missing?” Her look screamed, *You can get the hell out now, right?*
Her distrustful words and gaze stung Beasley. But with Klein present, he didn't want to say anything that would provoke her further. She saw him as an enemy now, guarded and hostile. He couldn't understand why, but he knew that if he wanted to pursue this, he'd have to do it on his own.
“It’s missing?” Klein was confused. Having just woken up, he was still piecing everything together.
Beasley nodded. “Yes. The masked man must have taken it.”
Klein frowned. “That’s right, the man was wearing a mask. But I could tell he was young, probably in his early twenties at most.”
“Dad, would you like some water?” Willow asked, pointedly cutting off the conversation.
“Yes, a little,” Klein replied, turning to his daughter with a gentle smile.
