Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2286

Athena had been taking it easy on the island for a whole month, and it was around this time that Marlon's wounds finally started healing.

She learned about Lindsay’s verdict from watching TV. Lindsay had faced the camera with a serene smile, clearly having chosen her own fate. She had never won against destiny before, and she wasn't going to start now.

The day Athena found out about the verdict, she cried her heart out. The sea breeze was strong around her, but her tears felt more like crocodile tears because Lindsay had ended up this way because of her. She felt like the real executioner.

She covered her mouth to muffle her sobs, her eyes red with the strain of her sorrow.

Then she heard footsteps behind her—it was Marlon approaching.

"Athena, we're planning a seafood barbecue tonight. Do you want some more of that king crab we had last time? We can hit the night market together."

He stepped in front of her, noticing her red eyes, his tone instantly softening.

"What happened? Have you been crying?"

Lately, Marlon had gotten unusually gentle, almost like a different person altogether.

Athena shook her head. "It's just the wind; got some grit in my eyes."

Marlon chuckled, lifting her face gently to examine her eyes. "Is it the news? You saw it, didn't you? She could have gone for life imprisonment, but the court said she confessed and wanted this. No one could save her. Athena, don't dwell on it. Think about what we’ll have for dinner instead."

Athena's eyes held a hint of sarcasm. A human life, less important than dinner?

The more cynical she felt, the more she softened outwardly. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his lips.

Marlon’s eyes darkened, his hands moved to her waist, giving her a playful pinch, eliciting a surprised yelp from her.

He began to laugh, nipping her neck lightly, carried by the sea breeze.

“We’ll be heading back to Greenfield in a week. Is there anything you want to do before we leave? I’m all in.”
