Athena raised her gun, aiming at the distant waves, but after a shot, nothing happened.
Marlon stood beside her, a slight smile playing on his lips, amusement glinting in his eyes.
Unconvinced, Athena fired again.
She took a deep breath and gave him a playful shove. "Move over there. You’re messing with my aim."
Sometimes, women could be downright unreasonable, he thought, shaking his head.
With a resigned sigh, Marlon stepped back a few feet, turning his gaze to the seagulls gliding through the sky. The sunset cast a golden glow over him, making his silhouette striking against the horizon.
Athena lowered her lashes, reloaded the gun, aimed, and fired. The sequence was seamless, giving no hint that she’d only practiced shooting for a day.
When Marlon fell into the water, he was still clueless about what had just happened. Blood mingled with the ocean waves.
Athena took a shaky breath, her fingers trembling slightly as she walked to the edge of the yacht and peered overboard.
She had deceived Marlon; in truth, her acting career had involved extensive firearms training. That shot was deliberate, hitting him square in the heart. No miracle could save him—especially here, in the middle of the ocean, with only her vessel around.
She moved to the cockpit, setting a course for home.
The sunset remained stunning. They had come as a pair, but she was returning alone.
Athena’s hand, still clutching the gun, wouldn’t stop shaking, and it took her a moment to realize the dampness on her cheeks was tears.
She thought she was done crying, but at this moment, the tears flowed freely.
When Marlon sank beneath the waves, he vanished from sight; otherwise, she might have been tempted to fire a few more shots.

Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
