Everest's Guardian Hubby Watched Me Freeze My Ghost Knows Where He'll Burn novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4

I stood frozen, my heart breaking as I watched Evelyn tremble uncontrollably, tears carving silent paths down her cheeks. The sight of her so vulnerable tore at something deep inside me, a pain so sharp it felt as if my chest might shatter. I wanted to reach out, to hold her, to protect her—but my hands met only empty space, as if she were slipping through my grasp like a ghost.

“What are you just standing there for? Get over here!” Benjamin’s voice cut through the air like a whip, harsh and demanding.

Evelyn stumbled backward, her sobs growing louder. She tried to retreat into the safety of the police station, but Benjamin was faster. He seized her roughly, as if she were nothing more than a rag doll, and shoved her into the car with a force that made her body jerk violently.

Her old wounds, fragile and raw, reopened beneath his grip. Blood began to seep through her clothes, staining the fabric in dark, spreading patches.

She bit down hard on her lip, stifling any sound, curling into herself in the back seat as if trying to disappear.

When they got home, Benjamin’s cruelty escalated. He yanked her arm with such force that she nearly lost her balance, then slammed her down onto the cold floor. The sharp slap he delivered echoed through the room, a brutal punctuation to his rage.

Then, through the chaos, Victoria appeared. She stepped forward calmly, her voice soft but cutting through the tension like a knife.

“You really ought to talk to her,” she said quietly. “Calling me a homewrecker, a bitch—do you think a little girl would say such things?”

The room fell into a heavy silence, the weight of her words hanging in the air.
