From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 111

Ethan Carter was married now. Did that mean she never had a chance?

But she’d barely even had a real conversation with him.

Was all those years of crushing on him destined to go down the drain, just like that?

It felt so unfair.

Shirley Carter pressed her fingers to her temple, her frustration obvious as her voice came out sharper than she meant. “How am I supposed to know what to do?”

She’d only brought Catherine Blair here to meet Lily George because she thought Ethan was still single.

If Lily George liked her, there was at least a fifty-fifty shot things could work out—maybe even better odds.

But who could have predicted that, out of nowhere, someone named Olivia Bennett would swoop in?

And in just a blink, they’d even gone and gotten their marriage license.

Catherine Blair stood there with lips pressed tight, sadness practically hanging around her like a raincloud.

Shirley glanced over, her tone softening a little. “Let’s just head home for now.”

Catherine gave one last look toward where Ethan had disappeared and, though she was reluctant, followed behind.

Meanwhile—

Jasper Lane fell into step behind Ethan, curiosity all over his face. “Ethan, you really don’t remember her at all?”

“Mm,” Ethan replied, noncommittal.

Jasper looked skeptical. “Come on, with your freakishly good memory? If it were anyone else, maybe I'd buy it. But you? No way.”

Ethan shot him a look. “Believe what you want.”

Jasper grinned. “You noticed she likes you, right? Shirley Carter nearly shoved her straight into your arms. It was obvious to anyone with eyes. I’m betting she brought Catherine Blair here just to set you two up.”

Ethan frowned, brow furrowing. “I don’t know.”

With that, she left the room.

As Adelina’s footsteps faded down the hall, Olivia finally let herself relax.

She wandered the room, eventually stepping out onto the balcony.

Below, a sprawling garden stretched out, overflowing with roses, tulips, and wildflowers. The afternoon breeze carried the scent of blooming petals.

After a few moments taking it all in, Olivia went back inside.

She reached for her purse, just as the door swung open again.

Ethan Carter walked in.

“What are you up to?” he asked.

Olivia held up a small red envelope she’d just taken from her bag. “Just about to look through this.”
