From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 131

She could tell from the way he said “go” that what he really meant was “get lost.”

Catherine Blair’s eyes instantly welled up with tears, her cheeks flushing red.

“Mr. Carter, I swear, I didn’t mean to—” she stammered.

Ethan Carter didn’t want to hear another word. “Don’t come up here again,” he cut her off, his voice cold as ice.

Just like that, all hope was swept out from under her feet.

She’d joined The Carter Group for one reason: to get closer to Ethan Carter. But now he’d drawn a line in the sand. How was she supposed to get near him with this new rule in place?

Catherine’s heart twisted in protest. She wanted to argue, to explain, but Ethan’s expression was so forbidding, so unyielding, that the words stuck in her throat. She swallowed hard, nodded, and managed a shaky, “Yes, sir,” before turning to leave, her footsteps slow and unsteady.

She tried to console herself as she walked away.

Don’t panic, don’t panic.

At least I’m still at The Carter Group.

Ethan has to show up here every day for work. That’s got to be more chances to see him than before, right?

Meanwhile, Olivia Bennett let out a sigh, not expecting things to blow up like this. “Anyone know where the broom is?” she asked, trying to cut the tension.

“You just sit down. I’ll take care of it,” Ethan said, still in no mood for debate.

For a second, neither of them moved. Ethan could see the faintest downy fuzz on her cheek, her breathing uneven. His gaze dropped to her lips, and his eyes darkened.

This time, he didn’t hold back.

He cupped the back of her head with one hand and held her firmly by the waist with the other, drawing her closer, his lips brushing softly against hers—a gentle, tentative kiss.

Ethan hadn’t meant to scare her, just a light touch. But people are greedy creatures, and the instant he tasted her, all his self-control vanished. He deepened the kiss, exploring further, wanting more, needing more.

Olivia was frozen at first, shocked into stillness. But as Ethan kissed her, her eyes fluttered shut, and the world faded away.

Time seemed to stop. It was only when Ethan finally pulled away that Olivia’s senses started to return. She opened her eyes, dazed and breathless, her cheeks flushed, lips parted, the world spinning just a little bit faster than before.
