From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 138

With that freshly-awakened huskiness in his voice—oddly attractive, if she had to admit it—Olivia Bennett was pretty glad she wasn’t the type to fall for someone just because of how they sounded. Otherwise, she probably would’ve already had a hopeless crush on Ethan Carter.

Sitting up in bed, Olivia glanced at her phone.

7:40 AM.

She tossed the covers aside and got up, shot Ethan a small, smug grin. “Guess I beat you up today.”

Ethan just looked at her, a little bemused. He never really understood why waking up first had to be a competition. Still, he humored her with a nod. “You went to bed early.”

Olivia tilted her head, curious. “What time did you turn in?”

“Don’t remember,” Ethan replied, yawning.

Olivia made a knowing sound. “You didn’t go to sleep right after getting ready, did you?”

He didn’t deny it. “Couldn’t fall asleep. Ended up looking through some files Evan Dale sent over.”

Olivia’s eyes widened. “Seriously? Doesn’t that just wake you up even more?”

“Does it?” Ethan shot back, genuinely curious. “You get wired reading that stuff?”

Olivia shrugged, totally unashamed. “Not me. For me, that’s like reading a phone book. Three seconds in and I’m out like a light.”

Ethan arched an eyebrow. “Then why do you think I’d get more awake?”

She grinned. “You’re reading Carter Group files. Big projects, can’t make a single mistake—you have to be totally focused. No way you can sleep after that. Anyway, I’m off for a shower.”

She didn’t wait for a reply and padded into the bathroom, slippers slapping softly on the hardwood.

After getting ready, Olivia was about to head downstairs when Ethan called her back.

She stopped at the top of the stairs, and Ethan stepped over and plopped a black beanie on her head. “Here. Wear this.”

She fiddled with the brim, grinning. “Thanks, Mr. Carter. You have a better memory than me.”

Ethan’s lips quirked. “Want a scarf too?”

She waved goodbye, watching him drive off before heading inside.

As soon as Olivia walked into the studio, Helen Adams practically bounced over to her, looking delighted. “Olivia! We’re totally in sync today.”

She pointed at her own head and, with a flourish, pulled on a white beanie. “See? I’m rocking a hat too.”

Olivia grinned. “We look like a black-and-white duo. It’s like we planned it.”

Helen gave a goofy laugh. “Great minds think alike!”

Olivia smiled, hanging up her coat. “When did you get here?”

“Just a bit before you. Davina and the others aren’t in yet.”

Olivia glanced at the clock. “You’re early, then. They probably won’t be long.” She pointed toward the back room. “I’m gonna go set up.”

“Sure thing.” Helen started nodding, then hesitated, eyeing Olivia with concern. “Hey, Olivia… is that awful woman coming by today?”
