From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 159

She brushed past Olivia Bennett, who gave her a quick smile. “Well, since Mr. Carter’s here to pick you up, I’ll head out first. Let’s catch up again soon, okay?”

Olivia barely had time to respond before Nannie Bruce waved goodbye and practically bolted down the hallway—like she was being chased by a pack of wolves.

Of course, before disappearing, Nannie didn’t forget to shoot Olivia a look that basically screamed, “You’re on your own now.”

Olivia Bennett: “...”

Some friend she was.

Sighing inwardly, Olivia glanced up at Ethan Carter.

He was already watching her.

Their eyes met. Neither of them spoke.

Olivia knew she was in the wrong here. She opened her mouth, about to say something—

Ding!

The elevator doors slid open.

“Olivia? Ethan? What are you guys doing here?” Jasper Lane’s surprised voice called out.

He looked at them, and immediately sensed… something was off.

No, not just off—a full-on red alert.

Suddenly, he remembered how flustered Olivia looked when he’d passed her in the hallway earlier. He tensed up.

Olivia, on the other hand, let out a subtle sigh of relief at Jasper’s arrival.

“What do you mean, what am I on about?” Jasper rolled his eyes, muttering under his breath, “The only thing you’re good at is running Carter Enterprises…”

The words had barely left his mouth when he felt a sudden chill. He glanced up—Ethan’s gaze was icy, and Jasper quickly straightened up.

Trying to smooth things over, Jasper offered a sheepish grin, then peeked back at Olivia before continuing in a hushed tone, “Look, Olivia’s got the patience of a saint. Just say you’re sorry and this’ll all blow over.”

Ethan’s frown deepened. He stared at Jasper like he was crazy. “You…”

Jasper held up a hand, cutting him off. “I know what you’re about to say: you think you did nothing wrong. But let’s be honest, Ethan, in this town, besides me, your grandma, and maybe Adelina, no one ever calls you out. You grew up not even knowing what ‘wrong’ means.”

“So, yeah, maybe you messed up and didn’t even realize it. But marriage is different, man. Women notice the little things. You could’ve upset her and not even know it.”

He finished his speech, looking earnest, and noticed Ethan’s frown only deepening. Jasper thought he must be reflecting on what he’d said, so he pressed on, giving Ethan’s shoulder a friendly pat. “And honestly, even if Olivia did mess up, so what? She’s your wife. Just be the bigger person, apologize, and make her smile. Trust me, you’ll regret it if someone else makes up with her first. Listen to me, you—”
