From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 190

Adelina Lane shot Ethan Carter a sharp look. “Did you make her cry?”

Olivia Bennett: “…”

Was it really that obvious?

“No, I didn’t.” Olivia quickly shook her head, scrambling to come up with a believable excuse. She lowered her eyes, cheeks a little pink, and mumbled, “I was just surprised to see him, that’s all…”

She didn’t even finish the sentence, but Adelina was already nodding in understanding.

Of course—Olivia and Ethan had hardly been apart since they got married, and this was the first time they'd spent any time away from each other. Bursting into happy tears when seeing him again actually made perfect sense.

It just went to show how close they were.

Adelina gave a little smile, her eyes softening. “As long as you’re all right, honey.”

Ethan spoke up. “I’ll take her home now.”

They’d been apart for a while—he probably wanted some time alone with her.

Adelina had no objections. “Go ahead. Since you’re back, I won’t keep you. Oh, by the way—did you drive, or did Evan drop you off?”

She turned to Ethan.

“Evan gave me a ride,” Ethan replied.

Adelina fished her keys from her purse and handed them to him. “Drive safe.”

Olivia blinked, blurting out, “How’s Mom getting home then?”

Adelina looked at her, amused. “Don’t worry about me.”

Naomi Barton, standing nearby, grinned and teased, “Even if I didn’t have the car, I’ve got a spare bedroom here. And besides, your dad’s not just good for Sunday roasts—he knows how to look after his wife, don’t you worry. Your mom’s not about to end up sleeping on the sidewalk.”

Olivia’s face flushed at Naomi’s joke, but she did feel reassured. She followed Ethan out, leaving the others behind.

As the car pulled away and the house disappeared in the rearview mirror, Olivia finally turned to Ethan, curiosity bubbling up. “Why did you come back so suddenly?”

“I finished up work,” he said simply.

Daniel always showed up when Ethan was away; there was no way he could have known, right?

“Mom told me,” Ethan replied, matter-of-factly.

Olivia froze.

After a moment, she remembered—Daniel had come to see her the day he tried to get her to turn down Lavinia’s request, and Adelina had walked in on them. After that, the only time Daniel showed up at her studio was on the day of their wedding photos.

No wonder he’d suddenly backed off.

She frowned slightly, about to ask another question, but Ethan cut her off before she could finish. “Mom didn’t misunderstand anything, and she’s not worried, okay?”

Olivia: “…”

He really did know her better than most.

Meanwhile, somewhere else in town, Daniel Gill slumped onto his couch, barely sitting down before the sound of the front door opening echoed through the house.
