From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 197

Olivia Bennett paused, like she was pretending to think deeply. “Honestly, it’s pretty hilarious that you can’t even describe it.”

She grinned, looking as smug as someone who just scratched off a winning lottery ticket.

Ethan Carter was just as relaxed, a lazy smile on his lips. He reached out and pulled her into his arms.

Leaning against him, Olivia scrolled on her phone, shaking her head in mock disbelief. “Seriously, who comes up with questions this ridiculous? Their brain must be running on too much caffeine or something.”

Ethan just shrugged. “No idea.”

Olivia locked her phone and shot him a teasing look. “Didn’t you look all confident just a second ago? Like you had the answer in your back pocket.”

Ethan knew exactly what game she was playing. He absentmindedly played with her fingers, his voice light and teasing. “So you’re just trying to mess with me, huh?”

Olivia gave a little smirk. “No way. I just saw it online and thought I’d ask. I’d never make fun of you on purpose.”

Her words said one thing, but the mischief in her eyes said something totally different—she might as well have been wearing a neon sign that read “Teasing You Is My Favorite Hobby.”

Ethan’s gaze softened. After a moment, he grinned, “Okay, my turn. Let’s see if you can handle one of my riddles.”

Olivia’s smile faltered. “How about… let’s not.”

She was pretty sure he had something up his sleeve. Besides, quick-thinking riddles weren’t exactly her strong suit.

Ethan said, “You gave me two, I’ll just give you one.”

Olivia tipped her head, eyeing him skeptically. “And what’s in it for me?”

“Same deal,” Ethan replied. “If you get it right, you can ask me for anything you want. If you miss it, I get a favor from you.”

Olivia’s eyes widened. “Wait, how is that fair? I gave you two and didn’t ask for double the favors.”

Ethan grinned, “Fine, you can have two. Cash them in whenever you want.”

She huffed, but couldn’t help smiling. What was she even going to do with two favors, anyway?

Still—

“Alright. Hit me.”

Ethan grinned, “Jasper Lane.”

She nodded—now it all made sense. Jasper was known for his bad puns.

“I honestly thought you’d come up with something super old-school,” Olivia teased.

Ethan let out a soft snort. “Are you roasting me now?”

“Who, me?” Olivia blinked innocently, her wide eyes making her look like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth.

Ethan leaned in, his voice playful. “That’s one favor you owe me.”

Olivia let out a dramatic sigh. “Alright, what’s your demand?”

He gently tilted her chin so she was looking right at him, his eyes locking onto hers. His voice dropped to a soft, husky whisper, the kind that sent shivers down her spine. “Have you missed me these past few days? Tell me the truth.”

Olivia’s cheeks flushed bright pink. She hadn’t seen that coming. Trust Ethan to use his favor for something like this.

She hesitated, and Ethan’s gaze only grew more intense as he waited for her answer.
