From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 199

Olivia Bennett glanced at her phone, and instantly, her expression darkened.

It was a long string of messages.

[Olivia, it’s Uncle Mason—Mason Bennett. While Carmen was having the house cleaned today, the staff found a bunch of your grandma’s things and some of your stuff too. I told Carmen to keep them for now. Let me know if you want any of it—I won’t throw anything away. You can come by and pick them up whenever.]

Ethan Carter noticed her face cloud over and frowned in concern. “What’s wrong?”

Olivia handed him her phone in silence.

Ethan’s eyes instantly cooled as he read the messages. He looked at Olivia, gently ruffling her hair. His voice softened. “Do you want them?”

Olivia’s eyes flashed. She answered without hesitation, “Yes.”

Her tone was firm.

Back when she left the Bennett family, Mason and the rest had only let her leave with a couple of suitcases.

Her grandma’s debit card was something she’d managed to sneak out, tucked deep in her bag.

Thank goodness for that—her grandma had slipped it to her behind everyone’s back. No one else knew.

Otherwise, they would’ve taken it from her too.

Yesterday, her relatives found out she’d married Ethan Carter and tried to cozy up to her at the party, but failed miserably.

Now, today, they were suddenly oh-so-eager for her to come back and pick up her things. Their motives couldn’t be clearer.

But, whatever their angle, she was still going to get her stuff.

Ethan spoke gently, “I’ll come with you.”

Olivia nodded and took her phone back, typing a quick reply.

[Tomorrow.]

She’d barely hit send before his reply popped up.

[Okay, I’ll have the staff go through everything again, just in case we missed anything. I’ll wait for you tomorrow. By the way, will Mr. Carter be coming, too?]

Olivia put her phone down, ignoring that last question.

Ethan could sense she was upset. He pulled her close, not saying anything, just holding her until she felt safe again.

Olivia leaned into him, lost in thought.

The living room felt a lot more somber than it had a few minutes ago.

No one spoke for a while. Then, finally, Olivia broke the silence.

He just smiled, standing by the bed for a moment before quietly leaving and closing the door behind him.

When Olivia woke again, the room was silent.

She sat up, rubbing her eyes, piecing together what had happened.

After a moment, she got up, washed her face, and headed downstairs.

The living room was empty.

She glanced around. Susan came in from the backyard.

“Olivia, you’re up!”

Olivia asked, “Where’s Ethan?”

Susan grinned. “Mr. Carter’s in the kitchen. Said he wants you to try his cooking tonight.”

Olivia remembered. She turned and headed for the kitchen.

She hadn’t even reached the doorway when the delicious smell hit her.

At the door, she saw Ethan plating up a dish—his face the picture of concentration.
