From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 203

She said it all out loud, blunt as daylight.

Mason Bennett’s face twisted in an instant, all color draining away.

He tried to collect himself, but even then, he wasn’t backing down. He was dead set on keeping Ethan Carter here.

“Look, there’s definitely been some misunderstandings before. But at the end of the day, you’re a Bennett. We’re family, no matter what. From now on, this is your home. You can come by whenever you want. See? Everyone’s here today. I just wanted one family dinner. Besides, if Grandma knew you were back, she’d be over the moon.”

Funny, considering they kicked her out the moment Grandma passed.

Now he had the nerve to use Grandma to keep her around.

Olivia Bennett let out a cold laugh. “If Grandma knew, she’d probably call me a fool for coming back.”

With that, she brushed past him and walked away.

Mason Bennett was stuck—he couldn’t force her to stay, and he sure as hell wasn’t about to mess with Ethan Carter.

“I know we messed up before, and I know we hurt you,” Mason said, putting on his best remorseful act, “but we’re still family. You can’t change that. I won’t stop you now, but this is your home. If you ever change your mind, you’re always welcome.”

Olivia didn’t even look back. She kept walking, Ethan Carter right beside her—one hand holding a box, the other holding hers.

He looked so calm and sharp, but you could see a softness in him when he looked at her.

Mason Bennett trailed after them, desperate and awkward.

He watched them climb into the car and start the engine.

Didn’t matter if they ignored him, he still called out, “Drive safe, Mr. Carter! Come by anytime!”

The car disappeared down the drive.

The second they were out of sight, Mason’s fake smile dropped. His eyes narrowed, his expression turning cold and calculating.

Suddenly, her eyes dropped to the white bandage on his hand. “What happened to your hand?”

“Just noticing now, Mom?” Lavinia piped up, her voice tinged with sarcasm.

Carmen shot her a look. “Honestly, Lavinia…”

Daniel just said, “It’s nothing. Just a little accident.”

“Nothing serious?”

“I’m fine,” Daniel said. “I’m just going to use the bathroom.”

Lavinia watched him leave, then complained under her breath, “Mom, you’re really spoiling her. Did you see Olivia earlier? Acting like she’s queen of the castle. If it wasn’t for Ethan Carter, she’d be nothing.”

Carmen let out a heavy sigh. “What else can I do? You said it yourself—Ethan Carter’s the kind of guy who could walk into the White House and no one would dare stop him. We don’t need to suck up, but we definitely can’t afford to make enemies.”
