From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 222

Elaine Carter had absolutely no idea what was going on between the two of them.

But she had just witnessed someone brave enough to actually cover Ethan’s mouth.

And right then and there, she decided—if anyone here was worth sticking with, it was Olivia. The woman clearly had more say in this house than anyone.

“Really?” she asked Olivia Bennett, her tone earnest. “Seriously, Olivia, don’t worry about me. If you’re uncomfortable, just say so, okay?”

“I promise, I’m fine.”

Ethan gently removed her hand from his mouth, giving her a look Elaine couldn’t quite read. “Are you sure?”

Olivia felt even more awkward, glancing at Elaine for backup. “It’s fine, really. Come sit.”

Elaine’s eyes flicked between the two, but she finally settled on Olivia, double-checking, “So, I can sit here?”

Olivia nodded.

Elaine plopped down next to her, curiosity written all over her face. “So, Olivia, how old are you?”

“Twenty-three.”

Elaine’s jaw dropped. “Only twenty-three? Jeez, Ethan, robbing the cradle much?”

She herself was only twenty-two.

That meant Olivia was just a year older. Maybe not even a full year.

Ethan shot her a look.

Elaine caught herself, letting out an awkward laugh. “I mean, Ethan’s got good taste, that’s all. My mom’s been hassling him to settle down for ages. Turns out he was just waiting for you.”

Olivia couldn’t help but chuckle, glancing at Ethan. “He’s not exactly old himself.”

Elaine nodded along, whether she agreed or not didn’t matter—she was playing nice.

Not wanting to interrupt their little couple time for too long, Elaine turned to Ethan. “By the way, where’s my purse?”

“It’s in the car.”

Olivia smiled. “I’d love that.”

Elaine laughed, glancing at Olivia’s stomach and lowering her voice. “But maybe not right now. I don’t want Ethan or my mom chewing my head off for stressing you out.”

Olivia’s eyes crinkled with amusement. “I think I’ll survive.”

As they chatted, Ethan returned.

Elaine hopped up. “Alright, I’ll leave you two to your love nest. Oh, and hand me your car keys, will you? I’ll grab my purse myself, don’t worry about it.”

Olivia blushed, but couldn’t help reminding her, “Drive safe, okay?”

“Will do!”

Elaine gave them a little wave, grabbed her coat and the keys, and headed out.

As soon as she was gone, Ethan pulled Olivia into his arms, speaking in a teasing drawl, “So, you think my cologne stinks that bad?”
