From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 246

She arched her brows mischievously, a grin lighting up her face—clearly delighted to have gotten the upper hand with him.

Ethan Carter smirked, but suddenly, Olivia Bennett winced, her brows knitting as she let out a small gasp.

Immediately, Ethan’s smile vanished. He leaned in, concern etched all over his face. “What’s wrong?”

Olivia rubbed her belly, a playful glint in her eye. “The baby just kicked me.”

Ethan let out a relieved breath. This had been happening more and more lately, but each time, he still found himself on edge.

“He’s helping me scold you, telling you off for picking on me,” Olivia teased, laughter bubbling up.

“I admit it, I was wrong. I won’t tease you anymore,” Ethan replied, playing along as he gently scooped her up. “Come on, let’s get you comfy for a nap.”

———

New Year’s Eve arrived before they knew it.

Elaine Carter made it home just in time, rolling in with her usual excitement the day before the holiday.

When Olivia woke up that morning, the world outside was blanketed in white, soft snowflakes still drifting lazily from the sky.

“It’s so beautiful,” she whispered.

Ethan shrugged, snow never having been his thing. But seeing her so happy made him smile too. “Guess a snowy day means a lucky year ahead,” he said, half-joking.

Olivia grinned, lingering at the window for a few more moments before finally heading downstairs.

They’d barely finished breakfast when Elaine bounded over, grinning ear to ear. “Olivia! It’s snowing! Let’s go outside and play!”

Olivia’s interest was piqued, but before she could answer, Adelina Lane shot Elaine a look. “Don’t go getting Olivia into trouble. She doesn’t need to be slipping and falling.”

Olivia hesitated immediately.

Ethan reached for her hand. “If you want to go, let’s go.”

She shook her head, uncertain. “Maybe I’d better not…”

Adelina did have a point.

But Ethan wasn’t finished. He took her hand and tugged on a pair of mittens.

Adelina watched the whole scene play out, eyebrows raised, pleasantly surprised. She hadn’t expected Ethan to be so thorough. It was like he’d changed completely since they got married six months ago. She couldn’t help but feel a burst of pride.

Olivia felt toasty warm, gazing up at Ethan with a smile in her eyes. “Thank you.”

He adjusted her scarf again, grumbling playfully, “Don’t want to hear ‘thank you’.”

She could tell he meant she didn’t need to thank him. But Olivia’s eyes sparkled with mischief. Seeing that Adelina wasn’t watching, she leaned in quickly and kissed his cheek.

Ethan froze for a split second, then broke into a grin. “That’s more like it. You can thank me like that anytime.”

Elaine returned just in time to witness the exchange, letting out a dramatic “Ooooh!”

She honestly couldn’t believe how Ethan acted around Olivia. If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she’d never have believed he could be so sweet. It was like he was pulling the same tricks he used on their little cousin Aileen—she almost wondered if Olivia had been completely charmed into marrying him.

Adelina turned, puzzled. “What’s going on over there?”
