From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 268

“Hang on to the invitation,” Ethan Carter said.

“Alright,” Evan Dale replied.

After ending the call, Ethan turned to Olivia Bennett. “So, what’s on your mind?”

Olivia’s eyes sparkled mischievously. “Do you think it’d be too much if something… happened at their wedding?”

Ethan knew that tone. “I’m listening.”

She grinned. “Well, you know there’ll be a crowd. If we were to expose evidence of Mason Bennett cheating—right there at the wedding—it’d hit Carmen Gates like a ton of bricks. It’d hurt a lot more than if she just found out in private. Their marriage might not be completely over, but it’d definitely crack wide open.”

She paused, then added, “But Mason hasn’t visited that woman or the kid lately. Without solid proof, we might not be able to pull it off. Still, let’s keep the invitation. You never know when it might come in handy.”

Ethan nodded, thinking it over.

Olivia’s lips curled ever so slightly. “This could be the perfect opportunity.”

Ethan ruffled her hair. “Nice thinking.”

She sighed and brushed off the thoughts for now. “Let’s head home.”

“Alright.”

The Bennett Residence

Mason Bennett’s eyes crinkled at the corners as he read the text on his phone, a smug grin spreading across his face.

Mason, legs crossed, leaned back into the couch. After a moment, he looked at Carmen. “Didn’t I tell you to check in on Olivia’s friend, Elaine? Why haven’t I heard anything?”

Carmen felt a flash of guilt, but managed to keep her face neutral. She let out a sigh. “I went by her studio, but she’s barely been there lately. I haven’t run into her once. Even when I did see her before, she barely acknowledged me. She wants nothing to do with us. Couldn’t get more than two words out of her.”

Mason clicked his tongue, his expression darkening. “That woman’s stubborn as a mule.”

“Tell me about it,” Carmen agreed bitterly. “Hard as steel. No idea which side of the family she gets it from.” She spat the words out, then muttered, “If you ask me, it’s probably from her mo—”

“Enough,” Mason cut her off sharply, shooting her a warning glare. “She’s gone. No need to bring her up again.”

Carmen caught herself, nodding quickly. “You’re right. No sense in dredging up bad luck.”
