Beatty glanced between the two of them, then nodded. “Okay,” she said.
Damian Franklin grinned. “That’s a good girl, Beatty.”
Beatty beamed at the praise, her smile so bright it could light up the whole room. Then she quietly sat to the side, munching on her cookies. Aside from the sound of her crunching, she barely made a peep.
Damian’s smile faded as he turned to Olivia Bennett. He didn’t bother with small talk, just got straight to the point. “So, Olivia, what’s on your mind?”
She glanced at the photos on the table. She wouldn’t have come all this way if she didn’t have a plan.
Olivia straightened, her expression serious. She pressed her lips together for a moment before speaking. “Next month, Mason Bennett’s throwing a big wedding for Lavinia Bennett.”
Damian nodded, encouraging her to go on.
“I want to show these photos to Carmen Gates at the wedding,” Olivia said, locking eyes with him. Her face was grave. “I’ve thought it through. That’s the best opportunity.”
Damian sat quietly, weighing her words. After a long beat, he nodded. “I think that could work.”
Unmasking Mason at his daughter’s wedding would hit Carmen harder than anything else.
Olivia reached into her purse and pulled out an invitation. “I’ve got one of their wedding invites. If you’re on board, we can start planning right away.”
Damian blinked, caught off guard for a second—but just a second. His eyes hardened and his voice was steely. “Alright. Let’s do it.”
Mason and Carmen hadn’t shown them any mercy. If he and Beatty hadn’t been lucky, they might not even be alive right now.
So, why should he give them any?
She’d thought so herself, once.
If she hadn’t stumbled onto the truth by accident, she never would’ve guessed Mason had a whole other family stashed away. With a kid this old, no less.
And who knew what else was hidden out of sight?
A bitter laugh nearly escaped her. She glanced up at Damian, her eyes sharp. “If there’s anything I can’t do, just let me know.”
Damian looked at her with concern. “You shouldn’t have to worry about this, Olivia. You’ve only got two months left before the baby’s here. You need to rest and focus on your health.”
Olivia gave him a reassuring look. “I won’t get involved directly. But Ethan Carter can help.”
