From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 307

Lavinia Bennett furrowed her brow and let out a sigh. “Dad never seemed like that kind of man. What if he’s telling the truth? Maybe it really was that woman’s scheme.”

Carmen Gates’s eyes grew sharp, her tone suddenly serious. “Scheme or no scheme, the fact remains—there’s a child now. If that boy is your father’s son, he’ll have a claim to the inheritance.”

And more than that—he’s a son.

Even though Mason Bennett had made her certain promises, she’d always known, deep down, that he’d wanted a son.

So, whether it was a setup or not didn’t really matter anymore.

What mattered was that Mason Bennett was bound to see this boy differently.

The pictures splashed across the screen today said it all—Mason had feelings for that woman and her kid.

The three of them, arms wrapped around each other, looked for all the world like a happy, loving family. Anyone would think so, seeing them together.

Carmen’s eyes turned icy cold. She gave Lavinia’s hand a squeeze. “You can’t afford to wait any longer. You need to get into Carter Enterprises right away. And if you can, try to take over from your dad as soon as possible.”

Before, when Mason Bennett had no distractions, Carmen was content to let Lavinia enjoy her youth. She didn’t want her daughter getting involved in the messy world of Carter Enterprises. After all, everything would end up Lavinia’s anyway.

But now, Lavinia had to establish herself at Carter Enterprises without delay. She couldn’t let that woman and her illegitimate son get even a foot in the door.

Lavinia looked troubled. “I barely know anything about how the company runs. Taking over management…it just feels impossible.”

She was realistic about her abilities.

Carmen’s gaze hardened, but she patted Lavinia’s hand reassuringly. “Don’t forget about Daniel. You’re married now—you’re a real family. He’ll help you, and he’s smart. This shouldn’t be too hard for him.”

She gave a bitter smile and glanced up, catching Lavinia’s gaze. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Lavinia answered honestly, “You just seem so different today. You never used to be like this. You always did whatever Dad said, never argued.”

As if you didn’t have a temper at all.

“If I kept acting the same, that woman and her kid would walk right over me next time,” Carmen replied coldly. Then, her eyes softened as she looked at Lavinia. “Everything the Bennett family owns should be yours. I won’t let anyone else take that from you.”

Lavinia felt a swell of emotion. She nodded. “Don’t worry, I won’t give them that chance.”

Carmen lowered her gaze and gave her hand another gentle squeeze.
