From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 356

Shirley Carter met her eyes, freezing for a split second. Her lips trembled, but no words came out.

Lily George didn’t hesitate. “From now on, we’re done. Whatever happens next, you’re on your own.”

With that, she spun around and walked away, not looking back.

Shirley felt like the bones had been pulled right out of her body—she crumpled to the hardwood floor, legs giving out beneath her.

A hollow smile tugged at her lips as hot tears spilled down her cheeks, blurring everything in front of her.

Suddenly, Lily’s voice cut through the air, surprised. “Daisy…”

Lily stared at the doorway, where Daisy Dale stood, pale as a ghost.

Lance Carter’s brow furrowed, looking both startled and uncomfortable. This whole mess was old history between adults; Daisy shouldn’t have been dragged into it.

But from the look on her face, she’d already heard everything.

Daisy just stood there, staring at the two of them, her mind reeling with everything she’d overheard. She was frozen, not even registering when Lily called her name.

Lily cared for Daisy—maybe more than she’d ever admit—but now, she was too rattled to say anything comforting. She just let out a silent sigh and gave Lance a gentle tap on the arm.

Lance snapped out of it, and the two of them left. As they passed Daisy, they both glanced at her, but said nothing.

Their footsteps faded down the hallway.

Daisy felt like her feet had turned to concrete. She wanted to move, but couldn’t even lift a toe.

She stared at Shirley, collapsed on the floor, and her eyes stung. Tears welled up and spilled over, one after another, dripping onto her sneakers.

She blinked, trying to get control of herself, but it took a while before she could force out a shaky question. “What you said… with Uncle Lance… was all of that true?”

She looked at Shirley, desperate for a denial, wanting to hear the truth—whatever it was—straight from her mother.

Her lips trembled, her whole body threatening to fall apart.

Shirley looked into her daughter’s eyes, trying to form the words, but nothing came out.

The silence said it all.

Years of certainty fell apart in Daisy’s mind. Her thoughts just…blanked out. She stared, tearful, at Shirley and whispered, “You lied to me. Everything you told me before… it was all a lie…”

“No, sweetheart, I didn’t lie.” Shirley’s panic was obvious. She reached out, clutching Daisy’s arms. “I swear to you, everything I said was true.”
