His gaze was so intense, it felt like he could eat her alive.
Olivia Bennett’s eyes flickered, her breath catching in her throat, but she still managed to say, “You know, it’s late. We really should get some sleep.”
Throwing his own words back at him.
Ethan Carter just looked at her, a hint of exasperation in his eyes. He watched her lips move, then leaned in to silence her the only way he knew how.
“That was just talk. It’s not late at all.”
The words slipped from his lips and vanished just as quickly.
His kiss was overwhelming—demanding, fierce. Olivia had no strength to resist, so she simply closed her eyes, hooked her arms around his neck, and let herself surrender to him.
She couldn’t even remember when she finally drifted off.
All she knew was, when she woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
She glanced at her phone, then shot Ethan a glare. “This is all your fault.”
Ethan didn’t argue. “Yep, totally my fault.”
“…”
He agreed so quickly she didn’t even know what to say.
Ethan slipped an arm around her waist, his voice low as he murmured in her ear, “Guess I’ll have to make it up to you tonight.”
Olivia’s cheeks turned pink. She shoved him away. “You should be sleeping alone tonight, actually. That would be your punishment.”
“No way.” Ethan pressed a kiss to her cheek, his lips curling up in a soft, teasing smile. “Look at you blushing. We’ve got a kid, and you’re still so shy?”
As if she could help it.
Olivia turned her head, refusing to look at him. “Whatever. I’m getting up.”
She pushed him aside and sat up on the edge of the bed.
Ethan didn’t stop her. He just watched her, his gaze growing even softer.
Olivia slipped on her slippers and stood by the bed, glancing back at him. “Aren’t you going in to Carter & Co. today?”
“Nope.”
Said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Handled everything yesterday. Nothing pressing today. I’d rather be home with you and Carey.”
He knew his own schedule—she wasn’t about to argue with him. “Alright then, but get up. If we don’t hurry, it’ll be lunchtime.”
Ethan grinned. “Yes, ma’am.”
In the office—
Mason Bennett glared down at his phone, his jaw clenched in anger.
Ever since he’d found out Carmen Gates had people following him, he hadn’t sat on his hands. He’d run his own investigation into Carmen, Lavinia Bennett, and Daniel Gill.
And what he’d uncovered was worse than he’d thought.
Turns out, Lavinia and Daniel had already met with several shareholders and board members behind his back. Carmen was busy stirring up trouble, too.
It didn’t take a genius to figure out what they were planning.
As if he was already out of the picture. As if they could just take over.
Lavinia had no business sense. If she ever did get her hands on Carter & Co., she’d just hand it over to Daniel Gill.
His company was never going to end up in some outsider’s hands.
If they wanted a fight—fine. But they’d never win.
If they thought they could steal Carter & Co. from him, they could dream on.
Mason let out a hard, mirthless laugh, his eyes cold as ice.
He glanced at his phone one more time, then hurled it across the room. It smashed into the wall, the screen shattering into a spiderweb of broken glass.
