From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 130

Eleanor really wanted to tell him off, but Max was both her boss and her landlord. She kept her mouth shut.

Max glanced at his watch. “Thank you for having me, Juliana. I should get going.”

He nodded at Jared. “Congratulations on your recovery.”

Jared, even though he looked like he’d rather be anywhere else, managed a polite thank you.

Juliana was still beaming, though she clearly wished Max would stay longer. “Come by anytime, Mr. Clarkson!”

Standing right beside her mother, Eleanor reached over and pinched her on the side.

Juliana yelped and shot Eleanor a glare. As soon as Max left, Juliana turned to her daughter. “What was that for?”

“Mom, just stop. Don’t even think about it. He’s only my boss, nothing more.”

Juliana rolled her eyes and didn’t bother arguing. She went straight into the kitchen to wash the teacups.

Eleanor sat down next to Jared. “Make sure you rest, okay? We’ll talk about going back to school once you’re feeling better.”

“Thanks, Eleanor. I know. You work so hard… You should take care of yourself too. Don’t keep coming back here all the time. You can’t keep asking for time off.”

He was right. She had to save her leave for the court date. She really couldn’t afford to take any more days off.

“Alright. I’m heading back now.”

Peter’s car tore down the street, the GPS repeating its speed warnings over and over. He didn’t slow down until he spotted a cop at the intersection ahead, and only then did he force himself to breathe and calm down.

Even when he reached the office, his mood was still in pieces. But now, doubt started to creep in. Maybe he’d overreacted. Maybe Eleanor was telling the truth. Maybe it really was just one of her mom’s relatives picking them up. She was mad at him, so it made sense she’d want to be with her family.

He gently pulled his arm away. “Jessie, this is the office. I’ve told you before, we need to act professionally.”

He stepped back, putting space between them. “I have something to ask. Did Eleanor come to see you a few days ago?”

“Was she trying to get her job back?”

Jessie’s smile faded. She forced a shrug. “Of course not.”

“Peter, don’t be ridiculous. She’s divorcing you. Why would she want to come back here?”

Peter’s eyes narrowed, his voice even colder. “Then what did she want?”

He knew Eleanor would never go to Jessie for help, especially not to ask for her job back. If she wanted anything, she’d come to him.

Unless… she came for the bone marrow.
