From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 219

“Jared, did you pick up the delivery?” Eleanor called out, but as soon as she said it, something felt off. She hadn’t ordered anything.

She quickly set down her spatula and walked out of the kitchen, only to find Max standing there, looking completely relaxed.

He smiled at her. “Babe, you went to pick up Jared and didn’t tell me? I was starting to worry something happened.”

Jared stepped closer, that one word—babe—leaving him stunned.

“Eleanor, he…”

Max turned and slid his arm around Eleanor’s shoulders, giving her a look. “You didn’t tell Jared we’re married yet?”

Eleanor forced a smile. “It just hasn’t come up.”

Jared looked absolutely shell-shocked. His brows furrowed as he stared at Max, clearly suspicious. “Eleanor, did he make you do this?”

Max could tell Jared wasn’t a fan, but he wasn’t about to back down. “Come on, do I look like some kind of thug? Babe, did I force you into anything?”

Eleanor’s head throbbed. “Jared, he didn’t force me.” She couldn’t exactly tell him about the marriage agreement. Jared already worried about her enough. The truth would just make things messier for everyone.

She squared her shoulders and said, “He’s really good to me. We fell in love and got married.”

Jared just stared. Not a word, but his disbelief was obvious. A month ago, Max was her boss. Now he was her husband? There was no way this was a love story. This was a straight-up flash marriage.

Max didn’t seem bothered by Jared’s attitude. He grinned. “So, Jared, isn’t it time you start calling me your brother-in-law?”

Eleanor shot Max a look, but then the kettle started whistling from the kitchen, so she hurried back.

“Grant Goff. His family’s pretty well off. Even the homeroom teacher seems nervous around them.”

Jared looked at Eleanor, surprised she’d laid everything out so honestly. Maybe she really did trust Max.

“Alright,” Max said, his voice cool. “Let’s see how tough his family really is.”

Jared hesitated, then finally looked up and spoke, his voice a little shaky. “Thanks, Max. I guess… I accept you as my brother-in-law.”

Eleanor and Max both blinked in surprise.

Max’s smile grew. “You’re welcome. I like the sound of that. Want to say it again?”

Eleanor and Jared just groaned and rolled their eyes.
