From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 241

Chad kept glancing at Jared during the break, working up the nerve before finally walking over. “Jared, I’m sorry.”

Jared looked up, his face unreadable, just giving Chad a quick look.

“I really didn’t mean for things to get so bad,” Chad said, fidgeting. “I just said something without thinking.”

Jared pressed his lips together, thinking for a moment. “It’s fine. You don’t have to apologize.”

After what happened, they’d switched seats and it was obvious Jared wasn’t planning to treat Chad like a friend anymore. They were just classmates now. Chad knew he couldn’t expect anything else. He walked away, feeling a little helpless, realizing there was no way to go back to how things used to be.

Jared, meanwhile, found himself staring at the girl in the front row with the ponytail. She wore thick glasses and was the class monitor. The teacher had quietly told him she was the one who’d helped him by recording that video.

The bell rang, snapping Jared out of his thoughts. He needed to focus and get back to being top of the class so he could apply to skip a grade next semester. There was no time to waste. He wanted to get into university as soon as possible, become someone Eleanor could rely on.

Recently, Peter Clarkson had been showing up at the old Clarkson family estate for dinner more and more, usually when Max wasn’t around. He was really putting in the effort to get on George’s good side.

“Haha, Peter, you lost again,” George said, grinning as he set down a chess piece.

“Your chess skills are amazing, George. I didn’t stand a chance,” Peter replied, trying to sound gracious.

George laughed, his mood light. “No need to be so humble. Honestly, you play way better than anyone else in the family.”

George loved playing chess, but hardly anyone at home ever played with him. The oldest didn’t know how and the youngest, who actually played well, just wasn’t interested. George had ended up playing chess online, but tech wasn’t really his thing and he always messed up the moves, even when the butler tried to help. Eventually, he’d just stopped playing.

Peter couldn’t help but respect his grandfather for making him learn chess as a kid. Back then he didn’t get it, but now he was starting to see why. Maybe all that practice was for moments like this.
